|
|
As the title suggests I recently bought slayers volume 2 from anime on line, and was wondering does anyone else have problems with their disk.
The fault on my disc is on the second episode at the half way point where it skips/jumps straight to the end credits, and then continues to skip/jump until it reaches the final episode which to my surprise plays perfectly.
The other thing i wanted to ask does anyone know how to return faulty items to anime on line, as i have looked on their website but i'm still not quite sure, also does any one know their returns address if it is different from their usual address.
Any and all help appreciated thankyou. |

Send MVM an email using their Contact Us page. Include order number and be polite and they'll get back to you as soon as possible. Likely they'll want you to send you the disc with an error, but they'll get your replacement to you quickly. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

My check disc from the PR company was like this, but they said that I was the only reviewer who had the complaint. I guess it may be a batch problem.
e-mailing anime on line is the solution.
I had a faulty Vampire Princess Miyu disc from them once, they asked that I send it back, and I had a working replacement disc within three days. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

From the sounds of it there are some working copies, so again contact them and say you have another faulty disc, and could they send you a disc that they have checked? _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

| I have seen this kind of issue before on titles with large amounts of content on them. I did experience the same issue with this particular volume at about the 33 minute mark when playing it on my PS3 but playing it on my PC did not pose the same problem. I suspect it has something to do with dual layer discs and layer transfers. If possible try playing the DVD on a PC rather than a standard player. |

Kind of defeats the purpose of a DVD though. If it doesn't play in a DVD player, refund or exchange. That's it.
I did try that check disc in a PC though. It played, jerkily, pixellating every few seconds. Depending on what software I used and which machine, it varied to differing degrees. My laptop played it through fine for about twenty minutes into the affected region, before just freezing and giving up the ghost. When I tried it with PowerDVD, it didn't freeze, but it kept jerking like an awful NTSC-PAL conversion. On my desktop with PowerDVD it played as well, but with the gruesome pixellation. The one time that Youchoob was preferable. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

How'd it go Titan? Did you get a working disc in the end? I need to know if this story has a happy ending. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

I recieved a email from tony on friday asking me to advise him on the make of the dvd player i was using, so i replied to him, and he contacted me again on monday saying that they were looking into the suituation and may have to remaster, and they will send a replacement once the problem is solved. |

As far as I can see the only way this issue could be fixed for all cases would be to remaster the disks so what Tony says rings fairly true to me. Errors like this are caused fundamentally by the way the disk content is structured rather than any physical defects on the disk itself as stated in my earlier post. The only solution is to this is to play the disk on higher quality, more tolerant equipment, which clearly is a lot to ask of the end customer (adding a requirement for a £1000 DVD player or similar wouldn't go down with the buying public somehow ) or to attempt to restructure the disk to iron out the issues. The only way of achieving the latter is to remaster the disk. |

| I wasn't paying attention when this thread first appeared but as I'm finishing my review for this DVD I went back to check my DVD and I had no skipping problems at all but I did have a rewind problem that was annoying but other than that nothing that stopped me for watching Oh and its was a review disc not a commercial one. |

Just tried to watch Slayers volume 2, same issue as Titan.
Even though i didn't buy it from MVM directly, im still going to email them about it, since it really does seem to be a mastering problem.
(and im cancelling my order for volume 3 - why? Well because theres no point in picking up any more volumes till i can watch the second, silly!)
edit - just tried it on my iMac, using Apples DVD Player software. Goes all pixellated and jerky. _________________ Avatar: Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore

Don't cancel it, you'll miss out on the pre-release discounts.
My check disc played fine by the way, no problems in that regard. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Just got a reply (From Tony himself!). Apparently only 9 people have reported problems, including me (and titan of course)
Anyway they are keeping a list of address and will send a remastered disc to them in a little while.
Have to add that i tried it in mums player and it also stalled... have 4 more in the house to try it though, lol. _________________ Avatar: Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore
