Just wondering who gets the most customer loyalty?

I look at my collection. I call it a collection, it's more of a pile.

And I find that three-quarters of it is MVM and Manga, with MVM taking the lions share of the space. Even those titles which are now Revelation, like Gunslinger Girl and Fruits Basket, I bought as MVM discs. The Full Metal Alchemist discs are fifty-fifty MVM and Revelation. I have many more MVM series than Manga, but then again, Naruto takes up a lot of space.

Lagging way behind, in third place is ADV, I have about 10 series and a handul of single shot discs. Last year, before they went kaplut, I didn't have any. It's their warehouse clearance last winter that got me interested in some of their titles.

Just behind them is Revelation, though not through any reticence on my part. I didn't get Peach Girl, Hell Girl, or Robotech Shadow Chronicles, but did get pretty much everything else.

My eternal shame as a UK customer is that I have no Beez titles. Beez sales that appeal to my wallet are harder to find than a mousefart in a hurricane. And importing a series for £20, as opposed to buying it locally for £100-ish is a simple choice to make. Even still, I don't have too many Bandai series.

Otherwise it's a mish-mash, a couple of Funimation collections, a handful of Optimum discs, a couple from Fabulous Films, some movies from Sony, one from Momentum, A series from Nozomi, a couple of Madman imports all making up the numbers. And Salaryman Kintaro.

To be somewhat fair, the lion's share of releases tend to be from MVM and Manga Ent these days. In the past the majority has been released by ADV and MVM and even earlier than that ADV was by far the most prolific distributor. In that regard it is hard to compare distributors in a quantifiable way.

If it comes to brand loyalty I would probably say that BEEZ wins out in my collection since I have invested in 100% of their series/one-offs (all in singles and none of their boxed sets) but that is somewhat easier to do in the sense they have released a lot less than MVM or Manga. From both MVM and Manga there have been a few titles I have not been interested in but in percentage of titles released and bought MVM is probably slightly ahead of Manga. ADV comes 4th due mostly to the number of shows they have released in the past (I probably have invested in about 70-75% of their series/titles) whilst Revelation comes in 5th since I have only bought into about 50-60% of their titles.

In a very real sense none of this equates to loyalty but rather what titles take my fancy and in that respect a higher percentage of BEEZ's releases were to my liking than any of the others.

Its an interesting question. I don't think I favour any company over another, I probably have more ADV releases than most, and less Manga than the others, but other than that...

Got quite a lot of ADV titles thanks to their various clearouts over the last couple years.

Probably Manga next followed by MVM, then Beez and then Revelation. Hell, I've even got about 5 Kiseki DVDs!

JPT, you sound... cheap.

Im not even going to figure out this one. Its probably MVM or ADV, although the number of ADV titles has dropped dead so MVM have probably overtaken them.

I have no loyality, I buy the titles I like reguardless of distrobutor, cost and time and shelf spae are the issues at hand. The more a distrobutor licenses titles i like the more I'll buy of their shows.

Contentious issue, but there seems to be a lot of fans out there in general who buy everything, which leads to the notion of loyality.

I haven't separated these by series or anything but going on individual items (so this includes box sets and single DVDs as one) ADV Films is a clear winner with 143 items but that's counting US and UK together. I don't have time to break down the rest of my collection just now as I have to go to work, but will do later.

Yup, that's me Very Happy

I've long since realised that I collect stories. That's really all that I'm interested in. I prefer the permanence of DVD over the uncertainty of online broadcasts, but that's about it. My collection is about 50% review discs, which instantly trained me not to give a crap about packaging. In fact the only thing I do with review discs is ensure their safety, taking them out of paper envelopes and sticking them in CD single cases.

While I can understand the collector urge to invest in packaging and displays, I don't share it. I can't, I just don't have enough room. I've even found that unless the extras are exceptional, or tell stories in themselves, I'll only watch them or listen to them once. My biggest extravagance was probably the Steamboy Collectors set, a big chunky brick of a thing, but one that I only bought for the Director's Cut.

If I was to choose a favourite distro, someone to be 'loyal' to, it would be MVM, and not just because I have a majority of their discs. It's just that I find that of the series that they release, I like more than those I dislike. That fraction gets smaller with other distributors. Also they are consistent in their releases in terms of technical quality. It may not be perfect, but it is good 99% of the time.

Mostly ADV, MVM and Manga the same as you.

Also the 15 Studio Ghibli Collection + Brave Story from Optimum, Haruhi from Beez, and a few oldies from Animazing such as Tank Police and Project A-Ko.

I'm not going to get up and walk to look, because I am tired Very Happy

But I'd say mine is mainly ADV and MVM (probably more ADV when it comes down to it)

1 Fabulous Films, some Beez and Revelations Films in third.

The lions share bleongs to manga and ADV, it looks like ADV has more of my shelf space as I tended to get their individual volumes, whereas manga go more for compact boxsets. after that it's probably MVM and then the others

I'm gonna start boycoting Beez unless
1. they reduce there crazy prices and
2. start bringing out boxsets, that are
a. a decent size, i'm seriously running out of room, although I have just purchased a new cabinet, but it won't take long to fill and
b. aren't split into 2. i.e. Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin

I did purchase the limited edition Wolfs Rain Collection but I probably, thinking back should have imported it. Would have saved a lot, haha

As for my collection I have. I'd add Manga Corps and a few Geneon/Pioneer imports to your list and I probably have more Manga Entertainment stuff than MVM, although I have a lot of both Laughing

I'd have to say Manga Ent. and MVM are my favs as well, although Manga Ent's sign-sub problem on Karas really annoyed me, but they do a good job releasing cheap sets.

Oh please lets not go talking about boycots. At the end of the day, buy what you want to buy. If the price of something doesn't suit you, then don't buy that item.

Ah, but your UK book is so much better than the US "anime legends" brick. You're paying for the quality.

Sorry I was really miffed when I wrote that, bought a DVD cabinet that didn't hold as many as advertised. All my wrath came out Laughing

I still think think though Beez rip people off a bit and with the current climate I think they need to change or I see them disappearing from the UK Market. Especially when you see what Manga Ent are doing at the minute and MVM's up coming boxsets are priced at £37.99 on play (Black Lagoon & Ergo Proxy)

Also funi's Muishi Boxset is the same price.

Be interesting to see What Beez do next.
