Its seems there are releasing Eureka 7 in 2 boxsets, admittedly its 50 eps so fair enough but at £45 each (on play.com), seems like again there charging extra than the others. |

My eternal shame as a UK customer is that I have no Beez titles. Beez sales that appeal to my wallet are harder to find than a mousefart in a hurricane. And importing a series for £20, as opposed to buying it locally for £100-ish is a simple choice to make. Even still, I don't have too many Bandai series.
|
I'm gonna start boycoting Beez unless
1. they reduce there crazy prices and
2. start bringing out boxsets, that are
a. a decent size, i'm seriously running out of room, although I have just purchased a new cabinet, but it won't take long to fill and
b. aren't split into 2. i.e. Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin
|
I figure as these are points I've covered elsewhere in the past it's only fair to raise them here too really so you don't think I'm ignoring them! Dealing with them point by point:
1) Which titles would you define in our current line-up as crazy? I think you'll see that over the past year we have in fact reduced our prices across the board for everything barring standard Amaray DVDs - which are now being factored into promotions slowly where relevant after our change of distributor.
For example in the last year you have seen:
- The release of Gunbuster 2, in 1 release instead of 3 DVDs, for under £20 via the likes of Play.com and an RRP far under that of the US releases.
- Titles released as part of a premium range offering something you cannot get in the US releases just now such as including:
+ Gundam Seed boxsets with board games, artbooks and T-Shirts
+ Wolf's Rain in as close to a complete and perfect release as you'll get, including the available licensed soundtrack, artbook and storyboards that are not released with a release outside of the EU - in a collectible box.
+ Gundam Wing, remastered as was done in the Japanese release, something never done in the US boxed releases. To celebrate we also threw an artbook into the complete collection! (On a side note: If there's enough interest I can push to see if the two digipacks could be released separately at perhaps a lower price point per set though ).
- Seen releases of Beez classic titles that had not yet received boxed releases for prices in line with other UK distributors such as:
Crest of the Stars (complete collection)
Stratos 4 (complete collection)
Fantastic Children (complete collection)
s-CRY-ed (complete collection)
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (complete collection)
Yukikaze (complete collection)
Boxsets were initially split in two based on what was done for the French market releases commonly. This was a test to see how well it went down and while once done it's difficult to redo a boxset into one based on the time and costs involved - we moved on from that a long time ago. The only series to be split now are ones that were intended to be that way (like IGPX) or ones that would be a 10-DVD set thus prohibitively expensive otherwise.
Sets like Eureka Seven, Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are all split in 2 and priced similarly to that of other retail prices for 5-6 DVD sets out there by the likes of MVM or ADV before they handed the reins over to LDMS.
2)a) We use a range of packaging based on what works best for the series often I'm afraid there. As you can see from some of our releases we use digipacking more nowadays but sometimes a larger/harder box proves a better solution - we'll keep box sizing in mind though for our new releases coming out.
b) See my above comment. We now only split series up in box set form where it's actually the only feasible way to do the release or if it's the way it was intended to be. You'll see shortly up for preorder is the My-HiME complete collection, further proof we've already taken what has been said on board there ^^.
While we can't do much to alter previous releases at least until a remastering comes up or such - what we *can* do is learn and give you exactly what you've requested in future.
Consequently, Beez's plans for 2009 should prove interesting in some way to almost everyone. At present we have:
- New release structures planned for our most recent acquisitions including Gurren Lagann and Gundam 00 to follow a 3 * 2-DVD releases at a comparative price point to other UK releases in the same style. . With a LE and RE version available for Volume 1 at the very least in both cases.
- Some very good (and free) methods of previewing titles before you buy. More on that shortly when I can say more!
- A plethora of new AAA licenses for fans including:
+ Gurren Lagann
+ Gundam 00
+ Sword of the Stranger
+ .hack//GU Trilogy
+ One other (at the very least) that I'm almost ready to announce officially.
- New Blu-Ray releases also, following in the footsteps of previous releases in terms of style and quality.
Most importantly we take on board what you guys ask for and approach you all directly like this regardless of if the feedback is positive or suggestions for improvements!

But you'd not have got the soundtrack, artbook, storyboards or a beautiful leather book release then, so it all depends what you wanted from the release ! Good choice anyway and hope you like the purchase!
All the best,
- Andrew Partridge,

Hi Andrew,
Seems I should have done some homework before that post and not let the rush of blood to my head get the better of me, but glad I did as your post was very interesting and satisfying to read.

Ah the rush of blood, lol. I was referring to something that's probably now old, the releases of Cowboy Bebop, Wolfs Rain, Planetes & Witch Hunter Robin that were split into 2 boxsets and priced at around £35 each but I think you've covered this in your answers on current / future releases.

Thats great news, its just space more than anything else. I particularly like the cases ADV use (think they might be M lock) as these seem to take the least space but I heard a lot of people complain about these, so digipacks would be great.

Previewing titles is becoming essential to me, especially after I have bought a few complete boxsets in the past that I haven't liked after the 1st disc. Funimations website is great for this, allowing you to watch free episodes, hopefully the UK Market will get something in the future.
I do have a question though, if you are doing a 3 x 2 DVD release does that mean the chance of a digipack/boxset at the end becoming less likely?

Think I'll be purchasing the blu-ray version of this, I can't wait.

Actually I take that comment back, I was looking at it the last night and in fact I made a good choice. The only slight niggle I have is it doesn't fit in my new DVD Cabinet Thus why I was thinking maybe I should have imported.
Thanks Very Much for your post Andrew, seems you've been very busy. I saw the posts on AnimeUkNews also.
Much Appreciated. |

Well it's not as if we don't know what the other title is. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards
