Seems A.D. Vision after a long struggle has finally closed.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-09-01/adv-films-shuts-down-transfers-assets-to-other-companies
All it's assets have been bought out by other companies in the U.S. question is how will this affect the U.K arm. Have they also been bought out if so will the bought out company have any presence in the UK (didn't I hear sometime ago they made a deal with another company after losing U.S. support?)
Also what does this mean for the Live-action Evangelion movie...dead in the water? |

Basicly A.D. Vision has been on life support for a while now. This is them finally doing away with it.
What I expect is that things will carry on as they have done in the last few months. Sentai Filmworks has been releasing box after box of old ADV titles recently under the "Sentai Filmworks" branding. This is them transfering their assets away from the ADVision company in a legal way, to keep the assets they want to keep away from creditors and danger.
Pretty much everything is a seperate company now, but if you look, they're owned by either ADVs solicitor or John Ledford.
ADV UK hasn't existed in a long time, and ADV US have been distributing their titles via Lace. We haven't heard what's going to happen with their UK titles yet, I assume they'll be transfered somewhere else.
As for Live Action Evangelion - that was less likely to happen than Duke Nukem Forever. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

| It’s sad to read but it was something that was going to happen for a long time now. I hope the ADV UK titles won’t just disappear. |

that is dsad news indeed. Not exactly out of nowhere but still sad.
How this will effect the UK and what it currently out we'll have to see. _________________ ...

As mentioned already, it's just a means of seperating the profit from the debts, bundling up the debts and letting some poor schmuck deal with the mess, while the money making stuff keeps happening.
As long as the UK titles keep selling and making money, I doubt anything will happen (except maybe a logo change on the DVDs)
Quite frankly, it's pretty small news. Sad that the ADV name will probably die, but that's about it.
I would have figured the Tokyopop Kodansha split would have been a bigger news item...

How this will effect the UK and what it currently out we'll have to see. | I don't think there'll be any more anime titles coming from either ADV or LDMS (or whatever their initial were). From Ayacon I was under the impression that Hugh doesn't work there any more...
As for Kodansha ditching Tokyopop, yeah they've been in big trouble for a while now and that certainly didn't help. The idea of Dark Horse since getting all TP's CLAMP titles for omnibus printing is very nice though. ^^ _________________ My drawing blog and webcomic. |

Will the UK see any of those on its shop shelves though.
The Uk scene has becoem so reliant on the US market it's rediculous. _________________ ...

That'll be a "no" then where the Uk is concerned.
Things need s to change here now too. If the US model has changed we're screwed for the future. _________________ ...

I think it's time to open the whole dubs vs subs debate again, given that many people are now used to watching their anime fansubbed, it's time to find out out how many of them buy DVDs as well, how many of the remainder can be convinced to buy DVDs, and see if there is a profitable audiencebase for sub only DVDs in the UK.
Maybe something for the next convention? _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

yeah, I agree.
The biggest trouble, and I bet the first reason they say is BBFC costs, sure it's "half" the cost (only subs) but no-one will take the risk to see how many they sell.
The bizzare part being our world cinema market is huge and 90% of that is subbed only.
If more and more titles are going subbed only, and only the biggest of the big get dubs then the UK is left with very slim and very late pickings. _________________ ...
