I've already got Azumanga, Fruits Basket and all the Ghibl related stuff. I can't think of many other titles apart from harem-based shows that are out in the UK - and harem doesn't normally work for me, nor does cute for the sake of cute while I'm at it. I need a solid story! I don't import DVDs that frequently so my choices are generally limited to the UK market. (although I did pounce on R1 complete sets of Revolutionary Girl Utena and Nadia Secret of Blue Water when I gave myself the chance)
Give me a list of UKR2 series for me to check out and I'll see what I may have missed. (Rumbling Hearts is already on my list but Planetes didn't take me. The manga for DN Angel hurt me so I'm avoiding the anime) I'll watch anything once, I just can't guarantee I'll like it.
I feel that animation lends itself to having a focus on movement, which more often than not comes in the form of action. I also like stuff which is willing to push technical or creative boundaries as opposed to an unadventurous non-event of a show. It's an exciting medium for me full of potential so that's exactly what I expect from it.
If I really want to go for a story, then I pick up a manga. Most CLAMP, anything from Osamu Tezuka, along with odd titles like Short Program, Guru Guru Pon-Chan and DOLL are all titles I really enjoy. I find that narratives have a greater chance of success on the page than on the screen.
Watching a bunch of meek teenagers blushing at each other won't work for me unless there's a properly thought out rhyme and reason to it.

Dude, I know exactly where you're coming from there.
The manga hurt me mentally and physically (oh the paper cuts!) but fortunately I was forced to watch a bit of the anime and ended up loving it - it's very different to the manga. A bit more action-heavy and story-driven
Like you say, you may end up hating it as much as the manga, but don't be put off by it I dunno...if you're ever wandering by a library ask them to order the first disk for you *shrugs* At least that way you won't have to part with any cash for it ^_^ |

Yeah I got the manga from the library, so at least it didn't hurt my wallet! The only anime DVDs I've seen so far in my library are odd random volumes of Samurai Champloo and Chrono Crusade. I might have a poke at them and see if they've got anything else. |

Rumbling Hearts Toramon. Rumbling Hearts
Its romance, but not of the "blushing teenage" varity
I quite enjoyed the DN Angel anime, although i havent read the manga but i heard its fairly different.
IGPX is a good fun action show, and its also a good poster child for international projects (along with Oban Star Racers which will be out on dvd soon)
Oh talking of IGPX - just finished volume 5. Another good volume
No interviews this time in the extras though. A shame - they could of done ones with the other VAs (the previous 4 volumes interviews have been with the VAs who dont normally do anime) _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

Rumbling Hearts is definitely a go at some point. First time I see it cheap (or a box set) I'll try and go for it. Maybe one for Japan EX...
I'm a stingy little so and so - DN Angel or IGPX would have to be a proper bargain to tempt me as they're both longer series. Oban's a strong possibility though due to the decent volume:episode ratio.
Can anyone recommend Pretear at all? If so I'll see if ADV are selling it cheap at some point, if not I'll leave that one alone. |

Yeah, Pretear is pretty good, an anime version of snow white if you will, ever strong characters funny moments and a good story, probably one of the closest anime you'll get to being Shojo without actually being shojo. _________________ ...

Errr, it is shoujo.
A good un too.
My fave shoujo is Princess Tutu, but they has no real chance of getting a UK release, even though ADV have got the UK rights to it _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

It's a magical girl show to be sure but it's pretty shonen in how it goes about doing it's stuff, it's about as shojo as Angelic Layer. It sure isn't "shojo" shojo. _________________ ...

Watched Spiral Volume 4 last night.
I think the series is finally coming good, with the good guys and bad guys looking to be sorted out. The newest Blade Child balances things out too.
But still, half a series to get to that point... _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Got through Volume 3 of Berserk yesterday.
I don't know if it's just me, but Caska is becoming exceptionally annoying. I know she's had it rough, but just about every member of the cast has but they don't keep moaning about it every 5 seconds! |

Last night I polished off Full Metal Alchemist.
I was worried about vol 13, that it might leave everything cliffhanging for the movie.
But it managed to wrap up all the main plot threads of the series in its inimitable way.
And it managed to start a new story that left us cliffhanging to the movie.
Annoying, but in a brilliant, mind blowing, coolest series ever kind of way. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Watched Ranma 1/2 Movie 2. It was alright and reckon it was better than the first one, but of Takahashi's longer work I think I prefer Urusei Yatsura.
(Inuyasha's totally different so I won't compare to that one) |

So... Caught up on Sprial #4, Noein #3, Euerka 7 #6 (which was okay - suprise suprise) dissapointed about what happens in the volume but as far as the show goes, it was good.
And finally (yesterday) Trinity Blood #1 over the past few days, Trinity Blood was pretty good, for an opening volume though vampire series don't tend to click all that well with me, and the use of the same plot device was used 3 times in 4 episodes. _________________ ...
