What all the definitive genre threads running in recommendations, how varied is your anime collection, do you have titles from across many different genres or do you tend to prefer and stick with a particular genre when exorcising your buying habits.

I normally go for whatever recomended as being must see meaning I try and get all the Ghiblis, Paranoia Agents, and Evas-type series so I can keep on top of things in general.

For personal favourites I generally deviate into fighting anime of the meaty variety. I like nice fluid animation in my fights and if they're brutal as well then it's a bonus!

Meh, I'll buy anything if I see it cheap enough from hentai to kids shows. My Fist of the North Star box set happily sits next to a complete Fruits Basket so I like to think my collection's quite varied despite my actual tastes. Very Happy

I'm pretty narrow in my tastes I think.

All 14 Ghibli Collection.

SciFi/Cyberpunk
GITS movies and both SAC series, Bubblegum Crisis, Place Promised, Akira, Armitage III, Heat Guy J(not watched yet)

More unusual types
Lain, Paranoia Agent, Boogiepop, Kino, Haibane Renmei, Perfect Blue

Girls'N'Guns
Noir, Gunslinger Girls, Dirty Pair Flash, Najica, Chrono Crusade(not watched but I assume it's this genre)

Action comedy
Battle Vixens, Domion Tank Police,Project A-Ko

Fairly limited as I say.

It's looks fairly reasonable to me. Smile (quite a lot of mecha, girls and guns there, but then it's fair to say that's a majr proportion of the market)

To put it the other way around what shows would you say you avoid?

I don't actively avoid stuff so much as stick to what I know.

I'm not into:

rom/com, overtly fanservice based things, other than Battle Vixens which was a present honest and Najica, comedy, cutsie, hentai, large mecha stuff like Evangelion.

Cool stuff. Now that you mention it, well you reminded me anyway, I generally avoid harem anime as I see little point to be honest. (I'll still watch it anyway)

Very, very varied. From action to Sci-fi via Romance and comedy etc.

Interesting question, I'm open to most genre's, but I tend to shy away from series with pointless fighting, and the horror genre (unless it can compliment itself with a subgenre well)

I go for most things but have never particularly gone for straightout romance type stuff. Romantic comedies I can handle, especially shounen types but I find romance on its own a little dull. For the most part there is very little that I won't judge on its own merits.

I'd say the lion share of my collection is cyberpunk/mecha with a few odball ones like a bit of blast-em-up horror or romance.

I'm tempted to list my series and let you decide how varied it is... it's up to you.

pick a typical shelf, as an example.

typical shelf of mine
ROD the TV > Noir > Azumanga Daioh > Ergo Proxy > FLCL > Lain > Gunslinger Girl > Bubblegum Crisis (classic) > Boys Be > Kiddy Grade.

I tend to buy series on what I'm currently craving, like I wanted a show about Ninja's after finishing Tenchu on PS2 so bought baslilisk, so my collection is all over the map, I guess the only genre's i activly avoid are harem and usually horror of the splat-gore variety. On the flip side I activly seek out slice of life shows and am overly partial to SF and SF+other genre.

I'll try anything twice, and my collection is all over the place. From Sailor Moon to Urotsukidoji.

I don't like those shonen action shows which will spend ten episodes on one fight sequence. But I like Naruto.

I don't like pointless fan service and cheerleader skirts exploding in the middle of mortal combat, but I quite like Tenjho Tenge.

I don't like whopping great mecha striding through cities. But I have a little Tetsujin put aside for when I get a craving.

Ahh, I'm just an anime whore. Embarassed

Mine are organised in alphabetica order (typical me really) so listing a random shelf isn't really optional. Very Happy
