| Quote: | | The media rights holder and distributor Fabulous Films revealed that it will release the first English DVDs for The Mysterious Cities of Gold adventure series in the United Kingdom in February 2008, with release plans in the United States and Australia afterwards. The European production company DIC and Japan's Studio Pierrot based this 39-episode series about the search for South America's mythical Seven Cities of Gold on The King's Fifth novel from Scott O'Dell (Island of the Blue Dolphins). |
I have been waiting for this for ages _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

I've known it was coming for quite a while, but it's nice to have a date (well, a month) for it. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

Just went to go to their site and it says to register for info on the title. It also has a small box for suggestions on the release as well. Sounds good!

They've even updated their site which has Inuyasha on there under their Fabuki Rocks line. Hopefully they can get a bit of a momentum going now as they've now established a line for eastern product. |

never saw this as a kid but a mate who really cherishes this showed me an episode, very catchy theme tune. I just know he'll be happier than cold pig in warm mud when he finds out. _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

I've got the theme tune on my MP3 player.
It's still good! (shouldn't have admitted that...)
I did watch it back in the day, but I don't remember much of it. The theme tune and the fact I liked it then sticks with me so hopefully it'll still be good and I'm not being deluded by my nostalgia. |

UPDATE
I've just been emailed some news from Fabulous about the DVD. Here's what I got from the email:
- They are restoring the masters, documentaries, and audio for the DVD release.
- They're trying to include as much extras as they can.
- They expect march will be the earliest release date.
- They're interviewing several people, and want us to suggest the questions. To suggest a question, email them.
(be sure to keep it brief, and mention who it's for)
The current interview list is:
Jean Chalopin (Producer)
Bernard Deyries (Director)
Shuki Levy (Composer)
The voice cast:
Shiraz Adam (Esteban)
Adrian Knight (Tao)
Janice Chaikelson Steinberg (Zia)
Howard Rhyspan (Mendoza)
If you have suggestions, questions, or would like to sugest a question, their email is mcog(at)fabulousfilms(dot)co(dot)uk _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

Here's another update, according to the HMV entry, and tvshowsondvd.com. (italics is their commentary, after speaking to Fabulous Films)
All 39 Episodes With Fully Restored Picture And Sound
>>>>> Previous plans we posted about called for 3 different releases from Fabulous, each with two discs containing 13 episodes. Fabulous Films has instead decided to go with a 6-DVD set with all 39 episodes in a single package. They have not yet started the authoring and encoding process, so the number of discs could potentially change. They tell us this: "we want to get the DVD compression rate right, so the quality of the restoration (picture and sound) can be appreciated". Sounds great! There may be releases later on that break up the big package into smaller chunks, but for now they are going mainly with one Complete Series release.
Dubbing Cast Interview Documentary Featuring The 4 Lead Characters
Interview With Creators Jean Chalopin And Bernard Deyries
Interview With Composer Shuki Levy
>>>>> While the above-mentioned interviews with the Cast and the Creators are already recorded and "in the can", the Shuki Levy interview won't be filmed until after the New Year holiday. There's no reason at this time to believe it won't be on the DVDs, but nothing is certain until the interview actually happens, of course!
Phillip Schofield Broom Cupboard Singalong
>>>>> This item is pending legal clearances, so it is not yet certain to be included on these DVDs.
Karaoke Singalong
Original Storyboards
>>>>> Unfortunately this extra cannot be included, because all of the storyboards could not be located. Instead, Fabulous hopes to substitute it with an interesting look at the development process, using some of the storyboards they do have, and comparing them to the final animations.
Original Concept Designs
Cast And Crew Biogs
Episode Synopses
Subtitles
>>>>> English subtitles are confirmed; they are not yet certain if any other languages will be included.
Series Synopsis
Deleted Scenes
>>>>> Deleted Scenes are not completely nailed down yet, but probably will be able to be included.
All 39 Original Documentaries
>>>>> For those of you who don't recall, this item refers to the short features at the end of every episode, each roughly three minutes long, that went over the actual history of a subject that figured into the story just watched (such as the Amazon rainforest, or the Straights of Magellan, or an object quested after or encountered). All of them will be included, as originally broadcast.
Medallion
>>>>> This gold medallion, a physical reproduction of the item from the show, is still not finalized for inclusion with HMV's release, but rather still "in discussions". However, if it DOES happen, then it would an HMV-only exclusive, so it wouldn't likely be seen anywhere in the USA...except for the unlikely event that a local retailer makes a similar negotiation to include it, or something similar to it. USA fans shouldn't get their hopes up on getting this item.
A3 Poster
>>>>> A poster of the show. By "A3" they refer to the size of the poster, which is roughly 11 inches by 17 inches (43cm x 28 cm).
Booklet
6 Collectors Postcards
>>>>> The number "6" isn't set in stone yet; it may end up being more or less than 6 _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

I've been watching this for the last couple of weeks, and I have to say it's awesome. Just as good as I remember. Most shows date. This one didn't... much.
Well you can't do anything about the animation or the dub. But the story and the characters are just as addictive now as they were back then. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."
