Please, this is a topic about trailers, not why you think dubs suck.

Cojiro: You listen to that and then call it 'cartoony'? That is fantastic voice acting and it doesn't sound put on at all.

PaleBlack: You hit the nail on the head. I hate it when people point at anime dubs and say, "THAT SUCKS!", but claim that the original japanese is somehow perfect. I've heard dubs that work so much better than the japanese version.

And no, that isn't how you pronounce it, but as weird as it sounds, it isn't as far off as it sounds like it is.

I'm glad that's not how you pronounce it, otherwise I'd have said it wrong so many times!

The girl's voice acting wasn't bad, but nor was it brilliant. Maybe it's just the American accents I can't get used to.

Yup, it sounds totally fake and put on to me. And I didn't say I think all dubs suck. There's plenty of dubs that are better, like you said. But the majority, including this one, do that annoying cutesy stuff. That's fine in some places but the stuff she's saying needs a normal girls voice. Compare voices in live action to anime. Live action sounds like people talking, which is rare in anime series. It sounds like she's sugar coating her voice purely because it's a "Cartoon."

Anime movies is another story...

The difference between live action and dubbing anime?
In live action, Leonardo DiCaprio will always be Leonardo DiCaprio. Sylvester Stallone will always be Sylvester Stallone. In anime, Brittney Karbowski could at one point be Ayu Tsukimiya, and the next she could be Himeko Katagiri. She takes her cue from what is on screen, and changes her voice accordingly.
I'd rather have that than to hear some hollywood actress who can only do one character (herself) in the roles. They're called voice actors for a reason. They act with their voice.

But again, this has nothing to do with trailers.

I was looking for the Jinki Extend trailer as it features the same voice actress in a different role, can't find it though the one I can find is this one, which also illustriates the point of bad trailers when they just use the opening song. link (just click play trailer under the coverart)

Liek a lot of ADV trialers the trailer is also very action heavy, Jinki Extend isn't all that dark, if anything it's 1/3 dark mecha action. Keeping with Action the other Kino's Journey trailer really highlights the shows action with pretty muc hthe entire trialer comign from clips of just 2 episodes.

trailers I like ont eh otehr hand are usually FUNimations, Kiddy Grade, Gunslinger Girl.

I'd have to half agree, and half disagree about Funimation trailers...

They seem very good trailers, but I dislike the way they create a new trailer for every volume. Quite often, I'll be loading up the latest volume of Tsubasa Chronicle, only to find a trailer for an anime I'm interested in, but the trailer for volume 3 of it, with some major plot spoilers included for previous story elements.

Which brings me to another trailer issue... spoilers.

What's your feelings about trailers using possible spoilers?

In the "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" trailer, there was a huge spoiler included, but the only ones who it registered for, were the people who already knew about it anyway.

I haven't seen the Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya trailer, so I don't know what the spoiler is.

I'm fine with minor spoilers in trailers though, the risk is, if you don't include anything that could be viewed as a potential spoiler, you get absolutely nothing in the trailer.

And I agree that trailers that are just the opening songs tend to be a bit weak...but Noir does that and works quite well I think.

Spoilers in trailers should be a no-no right across the board, I can't say I've ever spotted spoilers myself in trailers but things like character deaths, alternate idenities to characters ect should be left well alone. At the same time traielrs should always be in context, which going back to ADV's action heavy ones arn't.

Well that's what people get for watching the fansubs. Razz

I suppose it depends on what you think the definition of a spoiler is.

Deaths, false identities etc. should be definitely left out (like Damo just said) but trailers need some meat in them or they're just not interesting.

... And that massivly varies from person to person, depending on the show I don't want to know anything, but then I know others who's first question is often "what happens in the end?"

All successful traielrs should have a moment that makes you go "Oooohhh" like the bit in Gunslinger girl where [name] (paraphrasing) says "i don't know what I'm supposed to do, oh I know" and raises her gun towards the camera. Oooohh moments usually involve spoilers but I guess in that case removing them from their context works.

Why would you want to know what happens at the end!? I like knowing a bit about what direction it's heading in/what genre, so I like bits that make me go 'ooooh' but not massive spoilers.

I don't know whay anybody would want to know what happens in the end it boggles my mind to.

Stickign with "Ooooh" moments, this gilgamesh teaser trailer works far better than this full trailer.

That was more like an 'aaaaah' moment for me. I'm a complete coward. Razz

Good teaser trailer though! The other one told you more, but wasn't as intriguing.

Both good trailers though, considering how poor anime trailers can be Very Happy

Saw the trailer for Spriggan on my Rahxephon DVD.

That was a good trailer, and for once the voiceover didn't make me want to keel over with laughter.

Couldn't work out whether it was a horror title or not though...sounded like it should be, but didn't look it.

I think Spriggan is more of an action thriller type one sorta Indiana Jones with Cyborg soldiers instead of nazis
