I think maybe that MVM have quietly killed off Yu Yu Hakusho while no one was looking.

Just glanced the site and they were selling volume 1 for a pathetic £2.99. The limited edition was only £5.99! I think they're just trying to get rid of what they've got. Volume 6 on play.com doesn't look very hopeful either. Crying or Very sad

My computer doesn't seem to like MVM's site and I can't access the site anymore. Could someone double-check this for me if they've time to spare please?

R.I.P. UK Yu Yu Hakusho?

The MVM catalogue page shows 4 volumes all at £14.99 plus the limited edition for £17.99

Try this direct link

That's the official rrp yes, but I'm talking about their shopping site. The one you linked to hasb't been updated for a long while, volume 5's been out since then. Try this:

http://www.anime-on-line.com/xcart/home.php?cat=524&sort=title&sort_direction=0&page=2

Seems like they're also scrapping Vampire Princess Miyu, Riding Bean and Bubblegum Crisis! Or am I just getting myself into a tizzy?

Here's the linky

http://www.anime-on-line.com/xcart/search.php?mode=search&page=1

No mention of volume 6,

No mention of volume 5 on MVM's site...

http://www.mvm-films.com/catalogue/lettery.htm

although no discount here.

But it's been looking bleak for Yu Yu Hakusho since the dread factory fire of 2005. It's just slipped through the cracks.

Frankly, they'd be better off forgetting the individual DVDs and just sell Season boxsets.

Them three have been out for ages, and i wouldnt be surprised if their license has ran out.

On YuYu - great, Conan-san is going to be happy, isnt he........

I still think it would of been better to release Yu Yu in 13 episode (or there about) sets.

I only see volumes 1-5.

Maybe email them?

When I had problems with Gunslinger Girl disk2 they replied the same day and were very helpful even sending me a new disk to try for free.

To be honest, for one reason or another, Yu Yu Hakusho seems never to have particularly performed well for MVM it seems. This could stem from the original dub-only release making people think the re-release was dub-only or just boycotting it because of that.

It's a shame since it is a nice series when all is said and done. Formulaic, maybe but good fun with a good set of anti-heroes but if it isn't selling it may well not be viable for them to continue on with it until they feel they have a strong enough consumer base to do so. The same kind of thing happened with Gungrave and Texhnolyze as well.

As for Vampire Miyu, Riding Bean and BGC, they've had those licences for a fairly long time now and they probably sell less of those and a few other older titles than many others and have probably let/will let their licence go. Tony already mentioned he didn't think it would be worthwhile to anime fans or MVM to milk BGC any more than they already have by, for instance, licencing the remastered version from AnimEigo so that tells a story in itself. BGC was a bit of a landmark title for MVM since it was that which got them a foothold in anime in the first place by all accounts.

Just got a reply from MVM after emailing them

The Yuyu discs (£2.99 each) are remaining stock of the dub only release from way back when, he said they've got about 20 of each left.

Vampire Princess muyu's license has expired so that one is another where it's just the stock that is left.

Riding Bean BGC and Sailor moon. there licenses haven't expired but the masters were lost in the VDC fire and due to sales *now* it's not deemed cost effective to produce new masters of those titles, so what's left of thoe is what's left.

and from the BFFC thread their isn't a Fruits basket complete box on the way, the trailer on the disc (gestalt) is sorced from the US - so it's a US trailer.

I feel a bit sad now I've quashed loads of rumours *hangs head and waits for the spoilsport namecalling*

Booo! Heh heh...
No problem, it's good that they replied so quickly. Nice to have some constructive interaction!

It's also given me a little more hope for Yu Yu Hakusho as it's the old dub-only release and not their current one. It lives!

And Fruit Basket was already good value at 6/7 episodes a disc so it doesn't really need a set.

I think the one I feel sorry to lose most out of all those is probably BGC (I have the original VHS, original MVM DVDs and the MVM boxed set of it though Razz). It is sad to think that many incoming anime fans won't be able to get hold of a copy of this easily from stores although I can understand where MVM are coming from with their comment that it is not prudent to reprint the masters.

MVM have now put up the whole Blue Gender series (including the movie) for £4.99 each in their clearnce section.

It's not too bad that one, but be warned it's dub only so if you like your subs it's a no-go.

Quite a few titles going out now.
