Im doing this marathon of Studio Ghibli right now. Haven't bothered posting anything since i've already posted my thoughts on the first 2 (in order of year made)... but i got to Grave of the Fireflies today.

Now i keep wanting to cry Crying or Very sad

Great film, but oh so very sad.

You'd have to have a cold heart of stone to not cry at grave of the fireflies, that film is traumatisingly sad.

I'm feeling rather tearful in general right now (loooooong story, but its linked to my depression). So it probably wasn't the best movie to watch. Laughing

It was the pretty much final scene (the burial) that did it for me. Kept getting all teary eyed for a couple of hours after too.
No wonder it was a double bill with Totoro in Japan (which is of course tomorrows film! Yay!)

Its such a great film Smile

yesterday i watched Desert Punk vol 5 - rather surprising twist at the end!

today i saw the first disc of Gundam 00 vol 2, which is getting very political. Have to wonder if the references to God were originally Allah, considering the area this "Azadistan" is...

The Allelujah/Hallelujah thing is pretty clever too.

I decided to get back to watching my anime DVDs recently and am watching Shana.

After watching up to the last disc Im really enjoying it and Im hoping the final disc can end it well enough to not need to watch the second season (although I do want to watch it).

I finished Shigurui - Death Frenzy.

I gotta admit I found this a drain to get into, I only managed 1 episode a night for a few nights but eventually got to do two nights of 4 episodes back to back to finish.

Visually this had a lot of appeal, I don't think I've ever seen such disturbing sequences look so beautiful. However I found the story somewhat lacking as it doesn't finish. It's so irritating to have really begun to get into the show to find it so clearly unfinished, and it doesn't help that the entire series after about 10 mins of episode 1 is a flashback which doesn't end.

I found out that this is because the manga is still ongoing still I feel cheated, possibly more so because the series was only 12 episodes and initially looked like a really good story, but it doesn't seem like a second season is coming (at least not this year) so I've just got a rotten taste in my mouth. They should put a warning on the box saying "does not conclude satisfactorily".

Neon Genesis Evangelion disks 2-7 - Overall this was a enjoyable series, but the ending let it down.

Disgaea volume 3 - Enjoyable, more so than I thought it would be.

Slayers Try volume 2 - Better than the first volume, and a lot funnier.

Claymore volumes 5 and 6 - From start to finish I thoroughly enjoyed this series, especially the battles that take place in volume 5. I've heard bad things said about the ending, but I personally found it to be ok.

Finished off Claymore yesterday - fantastic!

Started Devil May Cry today with the first 4 episodes... better than i expected. Didn't know it was animated by Madhouse, not something you'd expect them to work on.

Finished off Devil May Cry yesterday. Took a while for a storyline to build up. Turns out a side character from the early episodes was actually up to no good. How surprising. Rolling Eyes

Very middle of the road over all. Switch your brain of and watch stuff.

Also odd is the disc/ep count, at least on the blu-ray. 9 on disc 1, 3 + extras on disc 2.

Cyber City OEDO 808 (R1), Bloody good stuff!
If you love Bubblegum Crisis, you should get this, it's got the same vibe.

See, I miss the Manga soundtrack on this. It's still got that godawful Manga Video dub, which I will treasure for the rest of my life.

"You wouldn't know a vampire if one bit you on the end of your fucking dick"

Classic line.

But I really loved the music that Manga created for the show. Especially the credit sequences. I got the Region 4 disc a couple of years ago, and it had the original tunes, which weren't a patch on the new versions.

It got to the point where this year I got my Manga Video tape, and transferred it onto DVD. Just for old times sake, and to avoid the relentless obsolescence of technology.
