One uped the US i mean (what else?)

Vol 1 and 2 of Gundam SEED Destiny came in the post today - both had 5 eps per disc, unlike the US release which had 4 eps per disc on the first 2 volumes Smile

This mean that the UK release should be on 10 discs instead off the US reelase's 12 Very Happy

50 epsiodes, which usually would equal 10 discs.

They could fit that on to 6 discs if they really tried, unless manufacturing dual layer (DVD9) DVDs cost more than single layer (DVD5) ?
sorry, rant over! ;D

They are mastered on dual-layer discs already. There is a fairly significant drop in quality for high episode counts, which is fine for older anime or video conversions which start out with a lowish quality anyway. With modern anime you would risk a lot of defects, especially with some of the more polished CG work that plays a role in many of the titles, if an attempt to compress it goes too far.

The most common form and the best form of compression guaranteed to work with all DVD players for DVDs is MPEG layer 2, which is a lossy compression. This means that the original image cannot be wholly reconstructed exactly as it was before the compression was applied and introduces a close-fit to the origianal, which will have some defects if looked at closely. The higher the compression, the more the defects are noticeable.

*drools over the booklet in Fantastic Children vol 1*

Damn beez, done it again - with a very nice booklet with vol 1 of Fantastic Children. Only sore point is the lack of any English cast credits (then again i recall reading that Bandai where a bit lax with them on Fantastic Children so it may not be beez's fault).

First Singapore dub ive ever had the chance to hear, and its apparently quite a good one. Oh and the opening song is gorgeous sounding. If i have time torrow ill be slipping this in my dvd player for sure.

Wait, you mean to say the dub for this show was not done in the US?

usually when the credits are vague (Geneon are a fine example) it's a good bet the dubbing was done in Canada, now if US voice actors want to work on a project being dubbed in canada they get schtick from their unions, so they go under a fake name so they dont get scab painted on their walls and their windows smashed in (that probably doesnt really happen), which is kinda useless if you just go on imdb.com as they'll list all the aliases in their profiles, I get the impression its cheaper to dub stuff in canada, so this is why the US acting unions frown upon it as its basically taking their jobs.
Dubs done in singapore is going to be an interesting experience, I just hope it wont be as bad as kung-fu movies can be as they are all usually done by Star-TV, a chinese company I think, who only have about 2 blokes a nd a woman who has to double for all the kids. (headmasters, Masterforce and VIctory were all dubbed by these peeps )
I kinda hope Manga do more with this UK based dubbing theyve only dipped their toes in on Millennium um um um actress it would be nice to think some of US could have a chance of doing some dub acting Very Happy

Nah, this is done by Odex (who also do anime in Singapore too) the dub isnt bad from what i heard. (still havent watched it all).

They also did Dan Doh, which is a golf anime of all things (doubt that will get a UK release). Apparently a Singapore company did Zipang as well, but that isnt meant to be as good (so i doubt it was Odex)
