I'm probably reading too much into this, but Manga Entertainment have said that they want to release Naruto: Shippuden in the UK next summer. We're at volume 5:1 of Naruto right now, with 5:2 scheduled for next February. That leaves four seasons, eight boxsets of Naruto to go. That is a serious amount to get through before summer 2009.
As far as I can ascertain the main storyline encompasses all of season 5, and the first five episodes of season 6. From that point on, it's filler.
The thing is that usually sites like Play list the next volume, and the one after that. They should have a placeholder for V 6:1 by now. But they haven't yet.
Could they be intending to release 5:2 with the remaining story episodes on a fourth disc, and ignoring the filler to go straight to Shippuden (or releasing the remaining story eps with the first volume of Shippuden, or indeed individually).
How would you feel about missing out on the filler if that happens? _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

No. Nothing should be skipped just because its filler. But maybe it should be released differently. I wonder if they might be doing 4 season sets, instead of 8 half season sets. _________________ Avatar: Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore

Or maybe once we start into the filler Manga will release Shippuden alongside the remaining "filler seasons".
I agree that they shouldn't skip the DVD's just cos they are filler though I expect if the sales dropped of because of it they may very well skip it, this is Manga were talking about.
Personally I'd like to see them back off on Shippuden, if like Naruto it gets released in 13 episodes sets eventually it's going to catch up to the Japanese episodes...and then we'll have even longer to wait between volumes...I'd be quite happy to wait till the end of 2009 for Shippuden.
The reason perhaps Naruto 6:1 hasn't appeared on release dates yet is because Manga are still figuring out how to schedule the releases so that everything (series 6-9) before Shippuden can be released before the start of Summer 2009.

The completist in me says that it should all be released, simultaneously with Shippuden if needs be...
But the realist in me thinks that if it is going to harm the brand, then it may be better to skip it. From what I've read and heard about the filler eps, 80 odd episodes of it in a row may just be enough to turn fans off the franchise, and then when it comes to selling them Shippuden, they won't buy because they have been burnt. Besides, can you imagine 80 episodes of Kakashi's Mask... _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

If my maths is right...and 5:2 comes out in Feb you'd have to release 2 13-episode volumes of Naruto a month March-June (though there are only 7 volumes after 5:2 as series 9 only has 13 episodes). Which means they could release Shippuden in or just after July.
Doesn't seem like that much really. |

Ok if you're only into Naruto. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

I reckon Manga should just keep on going as they are. The filler episodes have a bad rep, but I doubt they'll get cancelled. If manga really wanted to force Shipunden out for summer, they could either bump up the filler sets to hold more discs (say full season releases of 6 discs) or run both series alongside each other, which would result in Naruto coming out of our ears. |

| Jerome hinted at Manga's tentative plans way back when he first mentioned the Naruto licence years ago. At the time he mentioned hoping to be able to skip through the filler in some kind of omnibus styles with various episodes collected into one or two movies and give an overview of the goings on without getting into detail of the individual episodes. Whether that is the plan they are going to put into motion over the coming months has yet to be seen but it definitely sounds like they may be planning something along those lines. |

I'd rather just have the episodes rather than some bodge job please... |

I'd like them to get as far as the point where 'Parade' is the end theme at least. I love that track. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

I do love Naruto (not literally of course) and I think the same as any show it is far better to actually see the entirety of it if possible. i think the idea of compresing the equivilent of 7 volumes into a series of movies is a terrible idea as however good you may be at doing that you are always going to lose aspects of what is compressed.
I think even if there is overlap in terms of release between the Shippuden and standard Naruto they should continue in that manner rather than just losing a large portion of the show! |
