The question of dubs came up in another thread, Whisper Of The Heart in News & Rumours, so what are everyone's best and worst examples?

For me:

My least favourite/worst has to be Kino's Journey. God only knows why they cast a woman as Hermes when he's male, ok so he's not human but why change it? I didn't watch it dubbed but forget to change the audio on one disk and caught a bit.

Favourite/best have to be Lain, I'm biased as I love this series as you may have noticed. The voice actress for Lain is wonderful and despite a few dodgy lines the whole series works really well dubbed. Also Noir, which despite a very iffy Scottish? accent on the last few disks also works really well.

In general I prefer subs as I hate the American accents but I'm not fanatical about it and will sometimes watch dubbed.

I would, however, always recommed watching Ghiblis subbed and would never watch one of these dubbed myself.

picking out my favorite is hard, but after a while thinking about it I can't think of one so I'll list a few dubs I enjoyed:

Elfen Lied
Kaleido Star (and New Wings)
Kamichu!
R.O.D. the TV

Can't offhand think of any dubs that I do dislike, other than the dub for the uncut Cardcaptor Sakura, and the second season of SuperGALs. (or the lack of dub)

I don't mind them, I mean just about all anime dubs are done in the US so I guess it was easy for me to get used to them

Worst dub, ever, has to go to Transformers: The Headmasters. Everything about it is so cheap and bad it is just awful and makes your ears bleed.

I don't watch much anime dubbed since I usually don't have a lot of time to watch it multiple times when I first get it and generally prefer Japanese dubs to English language and generally return to that if I want to watch again but I did like the dub to Howl's Moving Castle.

wha uh bu ... *stammers with speechlessness*
I thought Cynthia Martinez was excelent as Hermes, both her and Kelli Cousins(sp?) were excelent as both sounded androginess enough to be either. The series also falls into around the start time when ADV started using a lot of female VA's to play boys, Kira Vincent Davis I think was the first as they made a big deal of it on the extras for Steel Angel Kurumi.

For me, Princess Nine is one of my favourite dubs. I also like the Kiddy Grade dub. Kamichu has a good dub but I found I had to get used to it first.

Looking at my collection to try and jog my mind I seem to have developed favourite VA's rather than favourite dubs. Laura bailey is awsomness in everything she's done. Which makes me then remember the Fruits basket and Blue gender dubs quite fondly.

Worst. Well an odd one I'd have to go with Azumanga Daioh, I think everyone sounded off-character in that, but partly because the Japanese performace is so strong. Then you've got some of the old dubs from the UK, Black Magic M66 was really bad.

hmmmmm,
Headmasters
Masterforce
Victory
Cromarties dub tried to turn it into southpark
Detonator Orgun, when you've got a serious anime, you need to have convincing accents, unfortunately there were no ex-pats available and they didnt have the luxury of being able to practice their accents.
Ghost in the shell, because there's a line from the manga that got re written for the dub, the bit where Motoko's just beaten the guy upo in her invisible suit and Batou says something aboiut him.

now my fave has to be Iczer 3 the cheesyness just seemed to work well with that one Smile its a so bad its good kind of dub

I like the Cromartie dub a lot, no problems with it here.

Favourite dub? I've always had a soft spot for some of the old Manga UK dubs. I likes me swearing and they make even bad anime more fun to watch! Rumic World, Devilman, Tokyo Babylon are good example.

Bad dubs: Love Hina stands out to me. I couldn't physically handle the English. Soft spots aside, some of the other Manga UK dub are bad like Shadow Skill, Detonator Orgun and Legend of the Overfiend. Those Dragonball Z DVDs we got over here were appalling as well!

I really only watch dubs when I have no other choice. So my experience of them is limited.

Still I had to take in the disaster that was Transformers Takara, just because it was there.

So bad it's good goes to Angel Cop, with the immortal line, "Eat shit and die!", which is as much a meaning of life as it is a curse.

I guess my favourite dub has to be You're Under Arrest OVA, which was a very natural dub.

I'm a big fan of loud high pitched, occasionally obnoxious American schoolgirl voices, especially when they're voicing loud high pitched, occasionally obnoxious schoolgirls. Rolling Eyes

LOL Very Happy Very Happy
They've got to be quotes for the day.

Azumanga's dub was bad in part because the Japanese VA's were exceptionally good. Tomo for starters just shouted all the time. Obnoxious rather than energetic.

Love Hina was also a bad dub. I think Bandai dothe most inconsistant, GitS:SAC is great, My Hime and Crest of the stars are a bit shoddy. Sometimes Crest'' sounds a bit wooden either that or it's the sound mixing.

It took me three attempts before I could watch Iczer 3, and that was down tothe dub, once I got used to it I quite enjoyed it in a cheesy way.
