bottom line, does this mean Revelation will be able to release Geneon titles? _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

I think that the possibility is greater than before, but as already mentioned, Geneon will deal with UK companies directly for distribution, rather than adding the headache of going through Funimation. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

No, because the deal only covered North America. Rev Films could still go and deal with Geneon directly, like MVM, Manga and ADV have done (and still do in the case of MVM at least)
Bugger. ADV UK (or whatever) will be no more soon then..... unless somewhere in the new contract ADV UK (or whatever) can still distribute said titles in the UK on behalf of FUNimation.
Argh.
Guess the sky is really starting to fall....
Also - are FUNi biting off more than they can chew with this? I think so. _________________ Avatar: Rei from NGE

The wording of that particular announcement was a little more severe, suggesting that those titles could very well be pulled off Lace. It appears to completely nullify whatever distribution licence was currently owned by ADV worldwide and transferred them wholly to FUNimation. In the short term this may have no direct influence on the UK market but there may come a point where the distribution is switched to Revelation, much like what happened with MVM. Navarre prefers dealing with Revelation for all of its UK distribution so the liklihood of Lace remaining the distributor of these titles is fairly negligible I would say. |

Yeah, but Revelation isn't exactly an anime powerhouse. It's quitely chugging along doing its own thing, and the quarterly release schedule indicates that they barely have enough capacity for Funimation, let alone an influx of ADV titles.
Besides, given what happened with Strike Witches streaming window on what is apparently a worldwide release, I get the feeling that for Japan and America, worldwide really only means Region 1 _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Remember Lace isn't ADV. It would have been a different matter six months ago, but I'm sure that there are some frantic renegotiations taking place now. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Lace are ADV's official UK distribution partner. Lace can't distribute ADV titles that ADV don't have. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

Just as Fudce said. I suspect there will be some grace period to help facilitate the switch over but in the long, if not the short, term distribution will most likely change hands. That is purely going on what has happened in the past but I honestly can't see it going any other way. Of course time will tell, as ever in these things and given how things are at the moment I suspect many people will not be able to give us any straight or definitive answers on it. |

Not only that but this press release RE: funi taking those licenses came out on afriday so there's afull weekend of speculation (at least) before we can start badgering the Uk companies.
Eitehr way it's bound to have an effect, either REV' will have to step it up a few gears and become THE powerhouse UK anime distributor - releaseing 6-10 titles per month Funi's and ADV's
Or Lace might still be able to continue to release them even if FUNi have them in the states. remember all these licceses are negotiated three ways japan/US/rest of world.
Then there's what will happen to ADV will they survive in any state, they can last on existing licenses for a while but then they'll have to start picking up new ones, it's not like FUNi have there entire catalog just the most recent chunk. _________________ “Sometimes, death is all you can see. Im also wondering what will happen dub wise? Most of the shows FUNi got where either finished (in which dub wise no probs) or in the middle of coming out (in which case.... hire ADV to finish dubbing them, ala Full Metal Panic TSR?)
If they do that, that will keep ADV in the black money wise (hopefully).... _________________ Avatar: Rei from NGE

I was thinking about the UK side of things, sure the list says north america and other regions but then how were those titles licensed in the first place. ADV UK were a separate company licising titles direct from japan. So titles like Red Garden , ADV UK might have licensed direct from Gonzo before ADV UK were merged back into ADV US therefore the UK rights might still stand in the hands of ADV/Lace.
A title by title basis... y'see... (?) _________________ “Sometimes, death is all you can see. It’s all around you. It consumes you - So you have to look it in the eye, and bare your teeth.”
