Every other anime forum seems to have a thread on this, so may as well jump on the bandwagon...
For those yet to have heard Funimation have started releasing Dragonball Z in digitally enhanced mega-cheap boxsets. All so far, but a lot of fans are in uproar over the fact that a widescreen appearance has been forced over a full-screen show. It basically means you lose an inch or so off the top and bottom, cutting off the tops of heads etc., but also gaining an extra smidge on the sides.
Anyone got an opinion on it, or the idea in general of when companies 'dare' invade the original content of a work? |

well I'll be annoying and say they were wrong to force widescreen, its not the original format of the show, so they should just accept that, but no doubt this gives them a good excuse to re release it in its un molested form! lol robotech got this kind of silliness. if they should've done anything to DBZ, hopefully for the sake of peoples sanity they removed the preview and recap bits _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

| I recognise that what Funi's done is a pain in the backside, but then the sets are damn cheap so I'm willing to live with it. (not that I've bought any yet, lol!) |

Sure what FUNi has done is "wrong" but that's their perogative, given that pretty much every TV bigger than 14'' you can buy at the moment appears to be widescreen format, why not, does it warrent the toys thrown out of the pram, bootlegs are better tyrades from every other poster it's getting on the animeonDVD forums? no.
FUNi must be doing something right as accroding to figures from earlier int eh year they have a 23% leading share of the anime market in the US.
Maybe I don't really care because I'm not into DBZ and it hasn't happened to a show I really want/like but I don't think I'd be that bothered if it did, I'd be annoyed and dissapointed but I sure wouldn't throw some abusive rant at the distributor in question. I'd either buy it and live with it or not buy it. _________________ ...
