Get those sideways looks at anime fandom at the ready and help eyeonanime compile the essential list of things an anime fan must do before they die.
Keep it tongue in cheek and a touch irreverent or be straight faced and serious about it. What must be done by all anime fans in order to ascend to otaku heaven. |

Dunno, I have a pretty low opinion of fanboys so ignore me if I start ranting:
Must have boycotted at least 1 major anime distributor for one reason or another in the past. (the reason is irrelevant)
To have made a philosophical point about Evangelion on an anime forum that was over 1000 words in length.
To insist that your Pokemon toys are actually collectible figurines.
To have bought the same show at least 3 times. |

-PLEASE NOTE myself, Eyeonanime and its affiliates accept no responsibility for harm, damage or eternal damnation obtained from attempting the points in this list!-
*wallpaper your room with anime babe/boys posters, even covering up windows and lightswitches
*spend more money on anime than you do on your significant other
*have a character tattooed on a private place
*attempt to build a giant robot-killing machine from a skoda and a couple of toasters
*sing "The Touch" by Stan Bush at a pub karaoke
*openly admidt to having a blow-up [ insert character name ]
*get arrested for stalking a voice actor/actress
*get worked up to the point of a heart-attack about something being missing from a UK DVD
*Go to Japan and get arrested for beating up Hello Kitty cosplayers
*To obtain SUPER GOD MAXIMUS GINRAI KAISER level you must set up your own anime distribution company!
please don't take these seriously _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

Cosplay and or crossplay in a place not usually frequented by anime fans. Wearing your cosplay outfit whilst travelling to an anime convention is applicable here.
To be able to sing "Konya wa Hurricane" unaided at kareoke.
Learn Japanese - by mimicing untranslated anime.
Fans must have watched at least one DVD in english with the subtitles turned on to look for differences, noted the differences down and complaned about them on a forum.
Not bought a previously wanted release due to not liking the coverart.
Must have played through to completion at least one Final Fantasy game.
Must go without food for at lest three days in order to save money for an essential must-have piece of anime merchandise _________________ ...

Also, related:
Not bought a previously wanted release because they didn't like the translation of the title. |

I’m sorry my cynicism is taking over
To have adopted Japanese words into casual English conversation “Arigato” “Konnichiwa” “Domo” and “Hai” are good examples.
Keeping it on language
To have spoken at least one sentence in casual conversation and ended it with “nyu” / “nya” / “nyo”. _________________ ...
