When, where and how is this convention? I've never been to one before but may turn up with a friend this year if I'm free. Are they worth going to generally? I have no idea about any of this stuff Confused

The when (October 20th and 21st) and rough where (London) is in the topic Smile.

Specifically it takes place at the Exel Centre in London, which can be reached via the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).

Full information can be obtained at the London MCM Expo website.

As to whether it is worth going, I would certainly suggest you should try it out to see if it is something you would be interested in. It is a great place to go and buy lots of merchandise, manga and anime as well as seeing some of the US voice actors featuring in anime. The London Expo in particular is not limited to anime but also focuses on cult TV and movies with many guests and some screenings (they had a special preview screening of Hot Fuzz at last year's October Expo, several months before the general release). Check out the itinerary at the aobve site and see if any of that appeals to you.

Unlike the dedicated anime conventions like Minami, Amecon, Ayacon, Awkinawa, ect, you can attened the london Expo just for the day and buy your tickets at the door, £10 before 11pm about £7 after, and then stay as until closing (about 6pm) you use your ticket to get back in and out too so you can go get food ect.

London expo's make for excelent day trips, artist allay where you can sit and draw also makes fro a good chill out area if the rest fo the event gets to hectic, the expo pulls in around 15.000 people.

The expo pales in comparison to a real con, but it's definitly worth a visit.

Guess I'm going then...and I'm dragging a friend with me. Is there any reason why tickets become cheaper? Is it better if you get there before 11am?

I'm going to go on the Sunday, as I have to work Saturday Sad

The pricing is for those willing to pay a little more for quicker access to the dealers (sales stalls and such) to attempt to buy stuff before it goes out of stock than those who are not so bothered about that. I am sure there are other reasons but that is a primary one.

It really depends on when you can get there for. If you can get there before the price goes down, you get more time in the expo.

There's no other advantage to the early entry ticket other than getting in sooner.

Sorry to sound like such an amateur Embarassed

Are the sales good? Is it worth bringing a load of money with me? I'll talk to my friend and see how early we can get there - the train takes about an hour and a half to Waterloo.

I'm getting really excited now! *bounces* I'm so odd...

It can be, it depends on how often you go to anime events as there can be a lot of stuff at them that you can't easily buy outside of conventions and expos. It's also a good chance to pick up and actually handle stuff rather then just looking at a photo on the retailers website, that can sometimes be enough to tip you into buying.

Don't worry I know I can act like a complete fanboy once i get into these events.

As Damo said, you can find a lot of merchandise and items that you would otherwise be unable to purchase (in person) elsewhere in the UK. It really depends on what you are looking for when it comes down to it. For instance you can find many merchandise products such as bags and figures at Tokyo Toys; United Publications will have a stand selling manga and region 1 (US) anime DVDs; most of the main UK anime distributors (ADV, Beez, Manga, MVM and Revelation) will have a presence selling their stuff. Given that there are plenty of opportunities to spend money.

There is nothing odd about being excited about attending something like this for a first time. Hope you have fun there.

The last Expo was really good for deals, especially around the main anime distributors. ADV were selling complete sets of Angelic Layer and Peacemaker for £30 each, and sets of Najica and other 3-disc series at £15 each. MVM had 2 for £20 going on with their new titles, and a £5 bargain bucket for their older stuff.

I spent way too much! Laughing No one seems to take cards though so you'll be needing cash. (there are a couple cash-points at the Excel if you don't like walking round with lots of money, but expect queues!)

My advice? If your going by the DLR have a stop off at Canary Wharf and use a cash machine there. The ones at the centre charge to withdraw, while theres plenty within walking distance of the Canary Wharf station that are free to withdraw.

Is it only new stuff that is sold or can you get older series there as well?

I really am looking forward to this now Very Happy It's been a good day.
