I don't normally read it but I just had a read through the latest Answerman section from animenewsnetwork:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2008-02-15

This stood out to me and made me laugh:
Quote:
Frankly, I'm not sure why this is always the first question when a new license is announced. The exchange always goes like this:

Company A: "We licensed Super Ninja Love Squad!"
Fan A: "BUT DID YOU GET THE 15-MINUTE OVA PREQUEL?!"
Fan B: "DID YOU LICENSE SEASON 1.5 AND THE OMAKE DVD THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO PREORDERS IN JAPAN?!"
Company A: "Well we can't announce anything yet but..."
Fan C: "ARGH! MAKE SURE YOU LICENSE THE ANIMATED OPENINGS TO THE JAPAN-ONLY VIDEOGAME AND INCLUDE THEM ON THE FIRST DVD!"
Fan D: "YOU JERKS, NOW I CAN'T DOWNLOAD THE FANSUBS ANYMORE!"

I remember the 90's, though, when that conversation was a little more like this:

Company A: "We licensed Super Ninja Love Squad!"
Fans: "Hooray!"

Ah, the good ol' days.

Anyone agree/disagree with this? I think they're bang on the mark to be brutally honest. A lot of fans out there are an ungrateful bunch of sods who can't contribute anything positive to the scene. They leech, whinge, complain and then moan when circumstances aren't 100% in their favour. Evil or Very Mad

Yeah I'm totally unprovoked in my rant but I just wanted to voice my approval regarding the above observation. Gragh! Twisted Evil

It's not just anime fans, society as a whole is selfish and spoiled.

You and me both, this response is always one of those that just really irritate me.

Even if I want shows to be licensed, I'll take anything I can get!

Not all anime fans are spoilt.

I just avoid the ones that are! Razz

Completely agree.

Looking at some eastern cinema DVD releases like ring ect, no dub, no translated credits, and IIRC in the case of Avalon - hardsubs. yet our eastern cinema market is thriving.

With Geneon imploding in the US and ADV unconcious in a ditch somewhere perhaps what's killing anime (in the US) is that fans are too darn picky about what they get given. Nothing to do with japanese money pulling the rug from under them, they release a product a good product they've spent a lot of extra money on making and then and fans wont buy it for stupid reasons.

I don't know really...
I don't bitch about wanting extras, but say season one of a series comes out but not season two? That's just stupid. (Ehem Gravion. Well it did come out but only in the U.S)

I do feel a little spoilt sometimes, a lot of new things get licensed which is great for the industry, but a huge percentage of it is stuff I really don't want to watch.

The problem there is, if the first series didn't really sell that well then they can only expect to get at most the number of sales of that series on the second one. In most cases the actual number of sales would be less and could be a significant drop. Better, from a corporate point of view, to cut your losses and leave well enough alone.
