No matter how many thousands of people will tell me how awesome a show is, sometimes I just don't see the attraction.
This is pretty much an ranting thread so don't hold back.
(yeah I'm bored so I'm starting lots of threads...) |

Lost and Heroes, I think they've been overhyped. plus the big problem with US shows is their success is ultimately their undoing, the more seasons get comissioned the less likely characters reach a long standing goal, a love interest being the usual casualty, look at Fraiser it took nearly 10 years for Niles to finally get together with Daphne, the simpsons is another example of this, bart and lisa should be in thier 20s by now but they stay the same, and what was the deal with flanders wife getting killed and then coming back?
Also I totally dont get the appeal of all those CSI's they take an exrtremely boring subject add a little Bruckheimer style camera swooshyness and music and suddenly its the best thing since sliced bread, I've watched CSI and I gotta say, Quincy is still the king
thats why I prefer anime shows, at least they have the balls to see something through to a logical conclusion.

CSI loves having those musical filler sections where they stand around looking at test tubes and testing stuff. No one sems to realise that nothing's happening.
In terms of anime I've gotta mention Makoto Shinkai stuff (again). They're strictly 'ok' to me but their biggest crime is being horrendously dull due to its worthy pretentiousness. |

The perpetual one for me is Evangelion. I got the whole idea of the plot but I just found the execution so utterly tedious, mostly to do with the cast of characters it had to work with. People rave about it being the best anime ever and such but to me it is just several hours of my life that I will never get back.
FLCL is another that appears to be falling into this category too. Read the manga and hated the art style and watched the first volume yesterday and found it broadly unamusing (I assume it is supposed to be funny but I just didn't find it such). I will watch it to the end but as of this moment I suspect it will be one I will quickly forget about. |

*listens for the sounds of 1000 fans hearts breaking*
To me Eva was really good at the time but has had a lot of its best moments pinched by subsequent series which takes the edge of it. It being flogged to death with various spin-offs doesn't help much either. I like FLCL a lot but it's got that slight 'I'm just so crazy!' vibe about it which feels a wee bit forced.
My opinion on Oh My Goddess! is generall known in this board so I'll quickly move on to... Planetes. I've seen about 2 discs and yeah it's ok but kinda meh as well imo. |

Probably only Excel Saga for me.
I just didn't find it funny at all. It's still the only series where I didn't buy/watch all the episodes. _________________ When people fail at being alive, they die.

Hey whose hitting on CSI? Ill get you *peers*
I don't get sports anime/manga. Just don't see the appeal.
Not quite series, but I hate elitist snobs who hate things just because they are popular. _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

I'm the same, I watched the entire series from beginning to end and even watched the films. I just felt psychologically damaged afterwards , I was bummed out for like 3 months, what annoys me more was the way some animes felt they had to be like evangelion to be liked. I mean that kid needed Mr T to threaten him with pain then maybe he would've stood up to his git of a dad and ended that madness. plus from a technical point of view I really hated all those static shots, when something interesting was going on you suddenly see a coffee table?
I guess everyone has to like different things, otherwise the world would be a boring-ass place. _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |
