Sounds interesting, although I'd rather have the games first and get these after which unfortunately isn't an option Sad. Not that that's Beez's fault anyhoo...

Couple bits of interesting news then, so thanks for the info. Will be going tomorrow though I doubt there'll be much more to hear. Smile

MVM have the Adolescence of Utena movie,

Beez are looking to set up a digital distribution channel

BEEZ laid down intentions to be more boutique, they have a exclusive wolf Rain set int eh works for nearer Christmas

Death note will be finished by Q1 2009 august / October / Q1 for the three remaining volumes were the ETAs.

manga may step up naruto releases they currently have up to eps 104 and are currently negotiating the rest and want to narrow the gap as much as possible before naruto: Shipponden.

Mar and Buso Renkin will be in 13 episode sets

Megaman Star force (? - I'll check) will be a single box set releease and will test the aters for possibly more meaman.

if all goes well manga have Ichigo 100% and Honey and Clover - anything VIZ media has the UK rights too, we'll likely see.

ADV are well - up and running and all that. They have plenty of box set titles lined up as well as finidhing off current sereis new licenses are pending.

Some more good bits of news here:
http://www.uk-anime.net/news.asp?IntID=540

Bleach and Naruto films should be cool and Welcome to NHK finally getting a go in August.

I'd never thought I'd see Utena over here, but without the series to back it up I'm not sure how well it will be received.

Cut & Paste from my AoD post:

Right then, I'm back in Birmingham, I've attended the obligatory Eurovision Party and got slightly tipsy, and I've watched F1 Qualifying. Now it's time to post the headlines from my notes...

ADV
  • Madlax boxset to pair with Noir boxset in style, trying to get matching dogtags.
  • They're looking at the possibility of an Eva Platinum style boxset release of Guyver in 2009.
  • NHK is confirmed for UK, with volume 1 coming in August.
  • All other titles that haven't been noted on release dates are still up in the air, but they're working on it.
  • Hugh has got a full time position at Lace, and we'll hear more from his megaphone again Smile

Beez
  • They're licencing a lot of stuff, but aren't fully complete on most of them.
  • They have licenced the .hack//GU Trilogy movies, an anime unannounced for US.
  • They're also going to be the first major UK distributor to release Bluray, with their releases matching the equivilant US and JP Bluray releases.
  • They're working on bringing Bandais online download system, "Bandai Channel" over here.
  • There's a Gundam Wing box in the works, with goodies.
  • There's a luxury Wolf's Rain box coming next year, with a nice bookstyle fake-leather design, and possibly new extras. (from the JP re-release?)

Manga
  • Death Note will continue with the double-disc releases. Vol2 will have a LE version with figure again.
  • Megaman Starforce is coming in November, if it sells well expect more Megaman.
  • Bleach Movie is currently due for October.
  • They have the Honey & Clover licences and Ichigo 100%, courtesy of their Viz partnership. They're looking at 2009 releases for them.
  • Blue Dragon is also a possibility, but Viz are looking at TV broadcast oportunities first.
  • Death Note 3 in October, 4 in 2009.
  • Hellsing Ultimate 1-4 licenced, releasing them in "two disc" releases, containing two volumes in one, effectivly. All should be released by Halloween.
  • They have Naruto Movie 2, but are worried about releasing it before the anime gets to that point due to spoilers. They're speeding up the Naruto Release to compensate.
  • They have up to Naruto 104, and are working at getting up to 220.
  • A UK release of the new Ghost in the Shell 2 Bluray is in the works, and will include both the old dub and the new dub (made with the same cast).

MVM
They didn't attend the panel themselves, but I cornered Tony later and asked them about licences...
  • They have Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie.
  • Everything else they were going to announce, we already know about!

Also it came out that the UK companies are very favorable towards bilingual releases, with only Beez looking at sub only releases in the near future. They can see why it happens, but hopes it's limitted not widespread.

I'll be posting a full expo report for Saturday in my blog at some point, probably tomorrow. Be sure to read it!

BEEZ also laid out some of the logic behind why some shows are subbed on;ly and did explain that shows like Maria Sama Strawberry panic Aria are too niche to support dubs, where as if they know they've got a potential hit on their hands they'll get dubbed. They all agreed that dubs are far too expensive for the UK to produce ourselves*. And that BEEZ would favor waiting to bring over the dual language versions of titles that Bandai Ent has in the US that are seeing subbed only "early versions".

*Gits2 was noted as an exception as manga knew they had a mega hit on their hands.
