Much as it would be preferable if the world was one big love fest, it would also be duller. Not everyone is going to like everything about anime.
What are your bugbears?
One of mine is the Ghostbusters Proton Pack charging up sound effect.
It shows up everywhere from Ninja Scroll to Bubblegum Crisis. It always throws me out of an episode and into that elevator with Ray, Egon and Peter.
Dr Ray Stantz: You know, it just occurred to me that we really haven't had a successful test of this equipment.
Dr. Egon Spengler: I blame myself.
Dr. Peter Venkman: So do I.
Dr Ray Stantz: Well, no sense in worrying about it now.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Why worry? Each one of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

The fans.
Not all of em of course, but overall anime fans are the most annoying, most whiney, most undeserving of all the fandoms im part of. _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

When people answer a statement by repeating the same thing.
A-kun: 'This is a computer.'
B-kun: 'Computer...?'
It a petty thing and probably not many people even notice it, but when you do you realise it's used all the time! I wouldn't say I hate it really, but it indicates to a bad script.
...and yeah of course the fans who whinge too much and don't realise how good they've got it. [/in my day] |

The most annoying thing for me about anime has to beeeee
inappropriate use of fanservice, adn even worse over use of fanservice that it borders in to the ecchi zone.
it should be used sparingly, that last few episodes of tokyo 2040 were a little bit ruined by this obsession to see em in the nude, crikey! thats what fanart's for!

there's also the sound effect from aliens, from the power loader scene near the end of the film. - used in loads of anime. _________________ ...

Fanservice doesn't bother me although I don't actively seek it out. If it's done tongue in cheek such as most of the stuff in Battle Vixens, there was some that was more gratuitous than I liked, then I'm happier with it than say Najica where it seemed totally cynical.
As for what I hate, most of it's more to do with the surrounding industry than the anime itself :
3 episode DVDs for £19.99
2 months between disks for a series
long release delays for series in the UK compared to the US
the 'anime's for kids' or 'anime is disgusting filth for perverts and child molesters' stereotypes prevelant in most of the mainstream media
obviously inaccurate subtitles when they don't need to be
Things are improving, I think, but these still annoy me _________________ When people fail at being alive, they die.

Not so much hatred as it is petty annoyance, but anime trailers.
More often than not, they are just the clean opening credits, and they tell you absolutely nothing about the show. In fact they could even be misleading.
Tenjho Tenge is a case in point. I'd been seeing the trailer for months before the DVD release, and on that strength I was sure it would be a show that I'd like. Imagine my shock when the show turned out not to have breakdancing in it. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Agreed. It's lazy if anything. A lot of people laugh at Manga's stuff but at least they give it a go (the more recent ones they use straight from Viz Media fail imo).
A lot of Beez trailers are intro sequences. Wolf's Rain especially comes to mind in the pointless stakes. |

actually scratch the fanservice thing, the one thing that niggles me in anime has to be the "gratuitous smoking shot" that one scene where a person cant just smoke a cigarette normally, they have to do it in slow motion, with a looooooong exhale. It's been done to death now.

Fanservice and panty shots etc.
I KNOW guys appreciate them and all that happy-lark, but they just don't do anything for me at all. Plus, if they had to do it, why not be a bit more imaginative with colour/pattern etc.? Might keep me slightly more entertained anyway.
Other than that, anime is for kids etc. OR anime is porn (and therefore hopefully not for kids!)
Um...otherwise I'm easily pleased. I don't even mind Gonzo showing-off;) |

Part of the reason, at least traditionally, for white panties is that they are easier to draw than paterned. Fanservice in the right context can be fun but it can ruin what could otherwise be a decent series. Case in point would be Najica Blitz Tactics or Divergence Eve. |

Ok, so patterned is out. But how about a nice vibrant green? |

I believe Studio Fantasia did experiment with panties of diferent colours, but they often looked more like bikini bottoms rather than panties. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards
