What do you think of this format of reviews for covering box sets and compilation titles, please let us know good or bad.

manga essentails
MVM ultimate horror
Ah my goddess collection

We already have three more box set reviews finished using this format for SE: Lain, Paranoia Agent and Tokyo Underground. Very Happy

It's a good idea in principle, as it saves doing a cut and paste of existing reviews.

But, it really only works if everyone has seen the discs. And with the Manga boxset review, it worked fine.

With the Goddess boxset, it's stated that some reviewers haven't seen past volume 1, and that quite a few found it slushy and saccharine. That makes the 5/5 score reflective of a partial view, not an overall one.

With the Horror boxset review, I strongly got the impression that hardly anyone had seen all of the titles. Which makes the idea of a collective of opinions pretty worthless.

I think it's a good idea. But to be honest I agree that it's more useful so have seen all of the boxs' contents. (I haven't seen all of Oh! My Goddess! or Paranoia Agent so my opinion is a little blinkered)

Shocked

Drop whatever you are doing and watch both of them. Twice.

No three times!

Very Happy

Put his head in a vice and pin his eyes open all A Clockwork Orange style .... Twisted Evil and play Beithoven's Ninth really loud while he watches them. Twisted Evil

Seriously though ... Ahem...

The idea behind these reviews was/is to put forward a number of comments collected from the reviewers with their opinion of a title whether having seen it or not, I do think that only seeing a portion of a show is enough to form an opinion however, but perhaps the fault lies in not being able to convey said opinion, poor writing...

You can convey that you want to see a series becasue of favourable things you've heard, being able to put that entheusiasm across (or disliking if it's the other way) for me is better than someone who has seen a whole series but still finds it hard to form an opinion and write anything down.

I like the idea but it may be useful to have links to the indvidual reviews where available to give people the chance to see in depth information on volumes and make a more informed decision.

(I know it would be fairly simple for a reader to just look for the review but most web users are a lazy bunch and won't search around if they can help it.)

I do like the way you present the series reviews like that, not everybody's view is the same, and that way you get several views for the price of one.

I'm still quite allergic to 3 episode DVDs and haven't yet felt rich enough to justify buying the rest of Paranoia Agent even though it is excellent. One day I'll get volumes 3+4 and then I can die happy.

Not sure about Goddess though. I found the first disc 'iffy' and dragging myself through the first disc of Mini-Goddess didn't help. If it's cheap on ebay I'll bite but otherwise... no. Laughing (one of those series I just don't seem to 'get')

Bah, PA is an excellent show that goes above the short comings of its release dodginess (the delays, the ep count and yes *that* edit)

Added the rmaining three reviews which use this multi opinion format, I think the SE:Lain review is the one that works best,

Tokyo Underground
Paranoia Agent Box Set
Serial Experimetns Lain Box Set

Should we continue on and review Ninja Scroll Box Set and Eva Plat ultimate Edition in the ame mannor. This way seems favourable but still needs tweaking.

Tweak away!

It all seems good so far.

Although I do have one question. They're supposed to be round ups of opinions for boxsets with individual detailed volume reviews elsewhere on site. Since Tokyo Underground R2 was only released as a boxset, shouldn't that review have been a more detailed in depth one, as opposed to a round up?

In the case of Tokyo Underground yes more would have been better but it has been in Rob's review pile pretty much sinse its release date so was getting annoying.

Ah, that's where a problem comes in, the links used to be included with the reviews, but when eyeonanime had all the hastle of being hacked all internal links that aren't embedded in the site's code were removed (except the news page) to help prevent it happening again.
