I guess Yu Yu Hakusho can be added to that, as well as Lupin III, and we still don't know what happens to FMA 1-8

Forgot about them, thanks.

(think FMA will be sticking around. no idea what's going on with Yu Yu, so I'll just say the dub only DVDs have gone for now)

Better add Akira - The Ultimate Collection to the list, anyone who hasn't got it yet, would like to get, and has seen it somewhere, get it. It's disappearing from online retailers.
what a shame Sad

I got the earlier DVD which only has the 1 dub so if I ever see this going uber-cheap I may go for the upgrade.

Considering it's still a high profile title that sells well in the mainstream market, I wouldn't be surprised if there was another edition in the pipeline.

Considering the earlier release is meant to be better it would be more like a downgrade.

It is? Surprised I didn't know that.

I've got the early one, which is in a cardboard only case. It's got just the newer dub, and the only subs are hard of hearing. There was a documentary on the second disc and a sheet of stickers, but I thought overall the Ultimate was the better as it had proper subs (maybe, lol) and a second dub...?

My copy of Akira is the 2 disk black cardboard case version.

Oddly both disks have a sticker on them saying Sample Disk Confused There's no other markings on them.

I got it from Play ages ago so I assume it's ok.

I got that too. That's the Special Edition. The sample disc refers to the Akira samples that Tetsuo goes digging for. They're not check discs or anything.

You get some extras including the Production report on disc 2. Disc 1 has the movie in widescreen with a remastered image. It also has the new dub, and unfortunately dubtitles (They're pretty good though, all that really bugs me about them is the HOH nonsense, 'wind howls' and all that.)

From what I understand, the Ultimate Collection takes the movie disc from this, and the original 4:3 release (which has the original dub, and translated subtitles) and packages them together.

What I want is the remastered widescreen version, with translated subtitles. Not gonna happen here...

I got that black cardboard one aswell, shame the cardboard damages really eaisily, mines looking very tatty. I just read that there's been a plans for a Blu-Ray edition for a while, supposedly it was meant to be out last year but has now been delayed to later this year, so maybe a new HD master is being made for the Blu-Ray???? All i know is for the time being I'm looking after my copy.

Sounds cool, reckon I'd get it on Bluray if it came out over here. Cool
