I myself find that I get a little peeved at having to wait over a year so that I can watch my current show especially those where you have seven DVDs to collect, that’s around 140 quid. I get really peeved when you have a 24 episodes series and they still stretch them over seven DVD. I do understand to a point where the seventh DVD could be the money maker disc but I do feel that some times I having my bank account mugged

What’s your thought on this.

I prefer 6 over 7 for various reasons (money, space, ep count) but i wouldn't let the volume count influence my descion to buy a series.

For a 24 episode series I feel they're cheating with seven discs. For a 26er I feel seven as acceptable.

The way I feel, a series should be sold on N/4 discs (rounded up) as a maximum limit. N is the number of episodes per series.

13 = 4 discs
26 = 7 discs
etc

The biggest offender of recent times is Kiddy Grade. Great series, but 8 discs for 24 episodes is just taking the Eclair.

If a 26 episode series is annonced as being released on 6 discs, then my interest in it is high. If it's on 7 then I have to think about it more carefully as the final 2 volumes will only have 3 eps each... and I hate that! Evil or Very Mad

26 episodes - 6 discs
13 episodes - 3 discs

There have been exceptions (like Gantz) but normally I wait for a sale before I buy 3 ep DVDs (like I did with Lain).

Loved the Fruits Basket release! Cool

I'm in agreement with everybody else 26 episodes fits so much better onto 6 DVD's than 7, not only saving moeny but shelf space and time.
Area 88 (despite nearly 75minutes of extras) 3 episodes is not enough. Yugo The negotiator is coming up fro release and again it's 12 epsidoes across 4 discs, what makes it worse is that A) it's dirt cheap in the states and B) the episodes form 2 6 episode stories. how about 2 double packs?

ADV are the worst for it.

Fruits baskets is proof you can get more episodes to a disc and have extras.

Sure I'll still buy 3 episode discs but only in 26 episodes series 12 episodes is a no no and I've got reservations about buying 13 episode sereis' across 4 discs unless I really want the series.

I see that most of you like the 6 or less idea and I would have to agree with most points made buy you.

I do wonder if we could get the indestery to explain the way of planing. but I do think its over money that make them do this.

it would be nice to see the numbers that they work with maybe then we could understand some of what the do but thats most likely not going ot happen.

I do think that most fan do care about the cost at some point, I don't see any UK fan starving themselve just for an aneim, (I could be wrong) but to purchaes an anime at twenty quid a DVD of seven disc is a lot and for the younger and most like newer fans the can out strip realy make the differance between a fad and or an opsetion. the likes of us older fans will know.

Blah blah

Not to sure what I am saying here add you own thoughts

13. One of the the two "stories" is 7 eps longs. Only the first disc is chaper in the Us, the others are normal price.

...... Geneon surely. They love 7 discs for 26, and seem to like doing 4 for 13.

It's a personal annoyance of mine having to wait 2 months between disks. So much so that I now wait for the entire series to be released before buying.

One I've been waiting for is Madlax but at 2 months between each disk it's a full year to release the series which is absurd for an ongoing story.

ADV complained that it wasn't selling very well. Maybe they should try releasing them faster and on fewer disks. £19.99 for 3 episodes is taking the mick after all.

So to answer the poll I'd prefer to see disks with 4 or 5 episodes which has been happening with some such as Gunslinger Girl and She The Ultimate Weapon.

Other than that I'll be waiting for boxsets or sales for series with only 3.

Yeah you're right, it's the first disc being 3 episodes they usually don't do that. Still my argument stands - two, two disc sets please. Crying or Very sad

I meant for here in the UK, followed by MVM, with BEEZ and Manga the only two makign inroads into getign stuff on less discs.

To be honest, I wish they would just release box sets and not individual discs at all. It's such a con, and my student budget (and £25,000 pound student debt) can't justify buying any more individual discs...until i graduate in june and get money...sooooo many box sets i want then!!

I spent £80 buying individual discs because I loved 'Serial Experiments Lain' so much - and now I get upset as all 4 discs in a nice box now in HMV for a mere £40. :'(

You can of course get the boxed set online for £30 at Play.com and other similar internet outlets.

I can't really agree that not releasing everything straight to boxed set is really a con. Anime in the West is very much a niche market, especially true of the UK, with the only revenue for the very steep costs involved in bringing it to market coming from DVD sales. Single volumes represent the only safe way of making money (or at least minimizing your losses should it come to that) since the costs are spread out over time and if the first volume fails to sell then there is a relatively small loss made by backing out of the series at an early stage. It is mainly for this reason that boxed sets appear after the series has been released in volumes and only if the series proved to be popular. Another reason for the lack of boxed sets, up until recently at least, was the high street retailers opposition to stocking boxed sets on their shelves. Some breakthroughs have been made on this and the major distributors are now releasing boxed sets fairly regularly.

Yeah I'd rather just get the whole thing in one go, not only because its cheaper but because when I get something new I HAVE to watch it all in one go, I hate to wait! Very Happy plus I only have limited shelf space and boxsets take up bugger-all compared to a six seven individual cased series.
as regards to lain, yes, MVM are cluckers!!!! they did it to me with Bubblegum Crisis!!! and to add insult to injury put the hurricane live DVD as an extra! Sad

I feel that for most people it's how you feed you anime habbit some like it in little chunks getting to pick there way throught a serise and haveing the time to enjoy it to it's fullest. also there's that anticapation for the next volume of you current series.

then there the I what the large chunk now, you get one masive hit and then spent the rest of the time coming down from on high and then hitting that point where you haveing withdrawls.

Simply I feel that it all how you need ot get you fix. cost matter to a point and so dose the number ot discs but in the end you do what you need.

I like it when anime is spread across 6 disks but if it has to be put along to 7 then so be it but if it is a 24 episode series and goes onto an 8th disk then thats being stupid.

I know it takes longer to see the whole series due to the delay between releases, but some anime is worth the wait.

I know this then contributes to you having to fork out more in order to get all the volumes for said series and at £20 a pop in stores is a bit OTT, which is why i buy my anime on Play.com because the money you save you can but to another disk.
