|
|
I just found out from animenewsnetwork.com that Production IG are in talks to produce a live action GITS film here is the full story.
Animation company Production I.G has received permission from Kodansha to act as an agent to develop a live-action film with a Hollywood studio based on Ghost in the Shell.
Negotiations with American entertainment companies have not been a strong point for Japanese Anime and Film studios in the past. However, hopes are high that a project involving Ghost in the Shell would be more successful due to the significant number of people in the American film business who are fans of the series. The size of the North American fanbase for Ghost in the Shell is also a factor.
As the producers of the original Ghost in the Shell manga by Shirow Masamune, Kodansha still retains rights to the series. Production I.G. produced the feature length anime films Ghost in the Shell and Innocence: Ghost in the Shell, as well as the Stand Alone Complex TV Series. According to the new contract with Kodansha, Production I.G. will represent the creators of the original work and other involved parties in negotiations for distribution of the Live-Action Ghost in the Shell and all other activities involved with production of the film.
Production I.G. is already accustomed to working with major film and TV companies in North America. The studio negotiated directly with major film company DreamWorks for distribution of Innocence and is producing the series IGPX with Cartoon Network. Since the popularity of Ghost in the Shell in North America was a result of the anime produced by Production I.G., many are hopeful that a live-action film supported by the company will experience a similar level of success. _________________ The

Personally I don't think it's that good of an idea, SAC is really technically minded so might have to get toned down for a big mass-market hollywood appeal. I can't see these things working.
then you've got to factor who's going to play major Kusanagi and batou, I can't think of a live action actress even close to Kusanagi,
Then if you take Batou, and cast say Bruce Willice (who might be pretty good) the move stands a good chance of becoming a Brue Willis film rather than a SAC film. _________________ ...

Bad, Bad idea.
You know that Hollywood would screw it up.
They'll chase after a family friendly rating to maximise audiences, a simple storyline for the same reason, so any of the philosophy of the movies, or the politics of the series will be jetissoned. It's just be another lame action flick with cyborgs. And after seeing Terminator 3, they can't even get that right.
Now if it was a Japanese live action film, it might have a chance. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

Yeah get Bruce willis as Batou and Milla Jovavich as Kusanagi and you got yourself a bizarre Fifth element reunion!

Ok Im one of the yes people here so far
OK why you maybe asking, well its quite simple I want to see better films some thing I can get my teath into not the usuall two hour sit there and switch of brain that I seem to be watching at the mo. Ok that can be fun too.
I do have a problem here I know that it would most likely be turned into an all action film rather than it usual techonbable, and interesting social comentary on posable future events and the out comes of thing that have happend and the fear of people become cyborgs.
I would like to see a live action Gits but you would really need some one who's out to make the best filme of Gits and not really that bother about the money that it would make.
I say start with an 18 rating and keep it that way we might get a good film
Sin city as an example and I didn't think it was that bad |

Sorry, I was serious! Bruce Willis would be a good Batou, and Milla Jovovich would be good as kusanagi, if the cover of ultraviolet is anything to go off, purple hair suits her
plus we all know she can do the whole graceful skyscraper skydiving
I would love to see a proper GITS movie (I'd also die a happy bunny if Bubblegum crisis got made into a live action), the matrix kinda tried to incorporate all the GITS stuff but went off on a bizarre, self indulgent bible tangent.
plus now the TF movie has been perfecting CG bots, we all know that spider tank scene's gotta be done!!!!!
Tatchikomas aieeeeeee!!!! _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

I can't really see jo-public accepting a tachikoma, y'know a really cool big spider tank with a really cute child-like personality.
As for Milla Jovovich, no no no no no, the major has to be someone overtly serious slightly sultery and aloof with a a hint of sexy about her. Milla doesn'tr have that air of authorit about her thatthe major does and I can't see her pulling it off. _________________ ...

I have to agree with Damo that Milla Jovovich just is not the one to play the major. Ok she dose look good with purple hare but that about it, there's just nothing else that matches up.
I do think that Bruse willis would make a good batou but I think he's a little short. just minor point.
as for jo puplic if the can watch transforming car and truks that can speak I don't thing a spider like tank with a cute voice would be that big a stretch. |

Jo public pretty much grew up on transformers, the same can't be said for GitS:SAC.
