Thanks to kevin I have just read an interesting article about China banning all foriegn animation form september 1st, including show like the simpsons
to read the article go here http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9354
What are your thoughts on this
I think that any one that has an internet connection would just download there favorite show. like some of us do. this could make China the biggest downloader of non licenced show in the world. |

| You can almost bet that China has already got the download possibilties covered with the Great Firewall of China, which is one of the most restrictive countries with regard to information from the internet out there. China really do want to control what their people think to a very large degree. It makes me glad that we get any anime on TV at all, to be honest... |

Just read the article on ANN, it's not banning all foriegn animation it's banning all foriegn animation from primetime TV (between 5-8pm)
In my opinion this isn't really that big a deal, China in itself is a closed nation, much like many of the far eastern nations.
In the UK a good few years ago TV channels (this is before digital) were told to limit there aquizitiosn of foriegn cartoons for childrens' programs and concentrate on home-grown programs, this is a simalar situation, China as is the nations M.O is being a little more extreme about it. |

It's a weird stance, perhaps it's an attempt to improve their animation industry and culture? Scary foreign influences can't be a good thing!
The whole banning of animation/live action blending seems strange as well. Where do they want to draw the line as many films (including an increasing amount of home grown stuff) rely heavily on computer animation to get by. No more sci-fi films in China it seems... |

Not really suprised by this but that whole animation and live action not being able to mix seems a bit daft. saying that you should see some of the silly rules the European Union comes up with!
e.g. Tranformer toys sold in the EU are no longer allowed to have artwork of the character on the box as this shows the toy doing something it cannot! _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

I feel that this move is a little silly but its really them that have to have limited viewing of anime, I feel sorry for those fans who love japanese anime.
I can understand wanting to help you own chinese animation studios, but what are creative people without any influences from the outside world? Just what will they make anime about that will capture audiences, who are used to Evangelion, Gundam and other anime? Go figure.
This is the true reason why they suffer creatively, simple lack of freedom to cover any subject for entertainment. _________________ Seek joy in life, cause less strife and hopefully you'll find a pretty wife. LOL! |
