It's been a while since I asked this question, but my preferences haven't changed. And even I as a sub fanatic have an occasional preference for a dub.

I still think Steamboy is a far better experience in English, helped by the stellar cast as well as proper regionalisation. Japanese in Victorian England just seems odd (although strangely I prefer R.O.D in Japanese). The only fly in the ointment is Anna Paquin as Ray Steam.

I can also watch Ghost In The Shell (series or movie) in either language, they're both equally good.

New this year to my (traitorous Razz ) appreciation of dubs is Beck. The dub on that is really good. And in a series where you have a lot of Japanese actors speaking English, it's harder to get into if you are a native English speaker. I was seriously impressed with the dub adaptation, which changed language differences into cultural differences.

My favorite dub is still ROD the TV, nothing has surpassed it just yet. BECK is coming close, and could be the one.

BECK really is special. It just screams quality.

My fave is still Princess Tutu Razz

Im starting to like most dubs by that Steven Foster bloke. Hes seems to have gone away from his "lets change things for no reason" mood, and is doing some of the best comedy and dramatic dubs for ADV at the moment (Pani Poni Dash!, Le Chevalier d'Eon and Red Garden)

Although to be fair, Super Milk Chan Show needed changes to work in English. The straight dub/Japanese original falls flat, while his changed one is hysterical.

I almost never watch new stuff dubbed, the exception being GiTS:SAC as I started that dubbed back on VHS with the original film, so my favourite is still Lain.

There's a few dodgy moments in the dialogue but the actress doing Lain is exceptional.

I watch virtually all of my anime dubbed so I find it hard to pick out a single title.

Was watching Full Metal Panic FUMOFFU last night and the dub had a nice little Lone Wolf and Cub reference so from that I can say it was probably a good adaptation from the Japanese script.

Umm... I dunno. Laughing

I'm inclinded to agree, his work on Gilgamesh and D'Eon are really good. not only for the quality of work but I like his actor-choices.

Gotta say though that I tend to enjoy FUNi dubs more than usual, more when they use their own stable of avtors though, Kiddy Grade remains a strong one.

Stephen Foster is an interesting one. He can be controversial on some of his directatorial decisions, but he always makes them for a reason, and if there has been changes, the anime did need changes.

Lets put it this way:
"I have never seen a Stephen Foster anime I didn't like."

I am not sure what my favourite dub is as I have a few I really like.

If I have to pick one, it has to be Tenchi Muyo OVA.
Ive always enjoyed the voice work on Tenchi regardless of its age.

I havent had the pleasure of watching Beck yet so I cant say anything about that, but recent dubs Ive enjoyed are The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi and I'm pretty impressed by the Bleach dub which has exceeded all my expectiations.

I like most dubs so it is probably easier for me to name the ones I dont like Very Happy

I'm still on my 'down with dubs' stand, but someone told me yesterday that Cowboy Bebop was better with dub.

Any views on this?

Martian successer Nadesico is really good with the dub. (Mainly 'cause all the jokes make no sense to English people in Japanese with subtitles.)

I have to agree that the Cowboy Bebop dub does out shine the original Japanese by a long way. It is a really good dub.

Guess I'll have to try it.

I suppose it is unlikely that they'll be any overly peppy girls, which is a huge part of my dub hatred.

I'll let you know what I think.

The dub in Burn up eXcess, I tried watching it subtitled but the grammar structure hindered the comedy.

They picked the voice actors well in that one.
