I understand what you mean. I think I'd class myself as hardcore but I know where to draw the line. I already know a lot about anime, manga and games out of choice, but there is a lot I don't need to know. My brain only has so much capacity for pointless info.

I know many fans like to know every piece of info, about series though know of and love the most, and fairplay to that. Each to their own and all.

I don't feel the need to attend every anime con on the planet, as much as I like them. I also like other things in life like sport (especially football) and drawing.

I think of fans in these classes:

Casual: Just watch anime or read manga sometimes as well as do other stuff.

Casual/Hardcore: Likes to attend the better cons, buys Newtype and Neo regular, buy anime, manga and games regular etc too.

Hardcore: Most of above stuff and below. A better attitude to new and old fans, and new and old anime/manga. Knows a lot about anime and manga.

Hardcore/Elite: The kind of person that collects everything anime. Knowledgable, tries to attend every con, and in an upper classmen kind of way may put other fans of the above categories down instead of welcoming them. Likes all of the above plus more. Will die if they miss an issue of Newtype.

These are all perceptions of my, so they are probably just as much right as they are wrong. If anyone out there can do better, please do so. Maybe you can decide which you are.

I think I'm casual / hardcore, I love anime and buy lots but that doesn't go for manga, I'm knowledgavle to a point but only on certain things.

It's odd you'd think running a website would mean I'd be more hardcore.

I might be hardcore. I keep track of a lot of stuff, both manga and anime. But then I'm aware that there's a whole bunch of stuff that I have no clue over! (mainly because I'm into the fansub scene)

That said I'm not really a con attender... I'm more for the shows than I am for the community Confused

I call myself casual.

Im probably not *looks at dvd listing excel file* yeah over 65% of our dvds are anime so i guess im hardcore, but i dont seem to be as "moany" as some of the so called hardcore fans ive seen on otehr forums. Plus i watch my anime dubbed - arcording to some people thats a sure sign of casualness. Razz

Also i dont watch fansubs - at all, but i do import the odd dvd from Japan

Gah.

I consider myself more of a Japanese/Asian fan rather than just Anime.

I try to watch live action as well as animated although the ratio is approx 3:1 in favour of anime.

The only real 'otaku' I did was obsess about Noir when I had a few months off work. I bought soundtracks, trading cards etc.

In general though I stick to the DVDs and occasional soundtrack CD.

Not sure what learning Japanese says though and I plan to go back there for 3 weeks next year. If you haven't been and get the chance it's really worth doing.

I would probably consider myself hardcore.

I enjoy anime and manga in most of its forms although, a bit lke Random, I do like some live action stuff (Japanese and Cantonese/Chinese) as well of which some of my favourite movies com from.

I have way too much anime and manga (from an outsider's perspective Razz), lots of it from Japan, figures and all sorts of other collectible stuff. So, yeah, I'm hardcore, I think although I do try to be nice to newbies, too and give them lots of help in choosing what suits them best.
