More and more shows as of late appear to be getting the second series treatment. What do you think of this practice?
Is it a good thing to have more of your favorite series?
Is it a bleed over from the American market when series are rarely only 1-season runs
is it a sign of the Japanese playing it safe, they know it's popular so make more.
Or in some cases is it a sign that the studios made such a botch job at the ending of the first series they had to make more or they'd get lynched. |

I don't mind them making second series as long as they dont go down the same road as the US ones do where a major plot never gets resolved BECAUSE of a second season in the pipeline. Ive seen series that coulsd have been really great but have been ruined because they dont want to draw things to a conclusion, it kinda gets like some sitcoms, the guy never gets the girl until the last ever series, the characters never grow and the bad guy always conveiniently comes back from the dead !. thats the kinda things I wouldn't want to see.
At the end of the day it all depends on the story, A huge story can easily adapt to multiple series but a short story should just be a short story, no point milking it dry. _________________ Subtitles only!? If I wanted to read I would've bought a book! |

It isn't a truly new thing but a bit of a carry over from the days when a series would run on over its initial run due to popularity. When you consider it in terms of loads of filler or a second series, which follows the original plot rather than something made to keep it alive in the meantime I think I prefer the second series option. It has worked well for School Rumble where there hasn't been many bad/filler episodes, which would likely have been the case if they had simply followed on from the first series and ultimately overtook the manga.
It is definitely nice to see some anime return for a second run but not, as Botmaster alluded to, at the expense of strong storylines. |
