Remember how Warner released Ex Machina in English only?
Well I just got the check discs for Vexille, and Momentum have only put the Japanese soundtracks on there, with burnt in subs. It's a nice package though. A Clementary, and two hours of extra features on disc 2.
It's Ok for a sub fiend like me, but if you want the pleasures of Colleen Clinkenbeard, you'll have to import the bare bones region 1. _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

BURNT IN SUBS?
Thats just not right even for a sub only release (and instantly stops it from being a nice package IMO)
Oh well, no buy. _________________ Avatar: Misa Amane from Death Note

I'll wait and see if FUNi do an LE later like they did with Origin and Robotech Shadow chronicles. _________________ ...

Sub only? That's a shame, because the dub was apparantly very good. I wasn't likely to buy it, but this has cemented it in the nobuy category. _________________ UK Anime DVD of the Month Awards

Yeah it's definitely sub only but to be honest I didn't even check to see if the subs were burnt in or not. If there's no dub, why would I want to switch them off anyway? (Or am I just missing the point somewhere? ) |

Yeah, but it would be nice to listen to the commentary, and turn of the subs to appreciate the imagery without text. It would have been even better to have the English dub on there... _________________ "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

I really hope it's something to do with the check disc and "they" are using reviewers as unpaid beta testers again. It could get fixed but I doubt it.
I was chatting to Rob about this and weagreed that they've alienated pretty much all the potential markets.
no dub - wont appeal to as many causual buyers, those who would have bought Appleseed Ex machina say
the film is animation - so might not appeal to asian cinema film lovers anyway
no dub - puts a lot of anime fans off
hardsubs puts all anime fans off. _________________ ...

ive seen a reviewers copy of a scanner darkly and it keeps going from colour to black and white and a hard subbed copyright message appeared every couple of minutes, its possible since its momentum doing the distribution, they may have employed similar policies to their check disc version (live action check disc mode), but if that was the case they should have given a note out telling the reviewer all the technical details aswell (like audio options etc) _________________ Subtitles only!? I know, I saw, I've order the UK tin anyway as TBH there isn't much speech in Vexille anyway, and checking a lot of my other eastern cinema titles hardsubs are the norm, not to mention the JC commentary track is really interesting, if the FUNi LE has both making of's too, totalling 2 hrs) I'll double dip. including postage it'll be slightly dearer than the UK release. _________________ ...
