I went out of character and ordered all 4 special editions of Haruhi last week for a scary amount. It helps that they're staggered over 4 months but even so it's not like me.

So do you tend to go for the flashy version with the extras or wait for a series to be marked down and pick up all the disks for £4.99 each?

I guess it depends on the series. If it's a 'must have' then I'll buy as soon as it's all out but if it's one that look's quite interesting but not sure then I'll generally wait.

Other than the Haruhi disks I have only the 2 disk7 tins from GiTS:SAC and the special edition of Azumanga Daioh.

When you have as many review discs as I have lying around, the aesthetics of the thing stop meaning so much. I've gotten to realise the value to me is what's on the discs rather than the fancy packaging. If I do have fancy packaging lying around, it's usually because the PR companies sent it along with the review discs. He says looking at a School Rumble tin. Sometimes we reviewers strike it lucky and get something the general public don't get. I got a Terratag T-shirt once with a Tetsujin movie disc, and the complete Paranoia Agent V3 minus the BBFC edits.

Every single purchase that I have made has been sale price, or release day bargains, and the days when I collected Star Trek TNG and X-Files bricks is long gone. I did get the Director's Cut of Steamboy on sale, and that was a hefty thing.

But the last time I bought a DVD for the packaging as much as the content was the Blade Runner 5 disc tin. I was stroking that for days...

I tend to get the pretty releases. Testament to that is Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Advent Pieces set at about £150 (about ¥30000). I tend to pre-order most of what I want and get first press and limited editions more often than not.

I love special editions. I love my extras. I love my Choco cornet and my Lucky Star Tshirt. I love having random keyrings and phone tags that I'll likely never use, but more than any of those things, I just love having something special. Smile

I loves me bargains, me. Smile

Something like the Gundam Wing boxed sets a couple of years back then? They were reasonably cheap and had Gundam models with them. I was surprised they were highly articulated since I was expecting them to be figurines when I bought them.

Aha, I'm the oposite. I'm not a fan of figures with too many points of articulation, unless it's nicely done. I guess I just like my figurines Smile

Haha, I'm the other way, even with thosepiles of check discs, I'm a bit of a box whore I loves me some artboxes and I'll go out of my way (to an extent) to get them for shows I really like. I'm dissapointed when there isn't an artbox or LE for a show and in those cases I fall on the opposite end and become a cheapskate and wait for cheap-ass collections not only becasue they are cheap but they usually come in a brick case or a box so I gets me an artbox anyways.

I've double dipped on foriegn discs r1 and european to get an artbox to a shwo reelased in the Uk, i haven't imported from Oz yet.

Ooh, I love me my Wings of Honneamise Region 4. It may be a simple Amaray case, but the commemorative booklet is to die for Very Happy
